Theoretically, this thing can make anything from food to fuel.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

Think about its effect on scarcity.

Whoa.

I took a nanotechnology class in college, but this is further than what we studied.

The craziest one was something similar, but you would essentially put something like this on a plot of land, and it would build you a house from the materials around. Pretty far out, theoretical stuff.

Probably won't see a base block builder in our lifetime unfortunately.

I'm all up for owning one though...it would be nice to produce car and bike parts at home. Design and build electronics. Imagine buying your new home theater (plans) online, downloading them to the builder and having your equipment built by the next morning.

Just so many things that could be done once we are able to work on the atomic level. And with precision that would make us today look like the Amish working on wood with hand tools....

thank you star trek

The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.

If you do something right people won't be sure you've done anything at all.

Ditto.......and although there is always room with new technology for misuse. I think this would solve more problems than it creates. Imagine a world where what "you want" and "can have" are the same.
