I know two at least two people that have them and they love them.

One bud has filled up a 1TB hard drive all ready. I just may have to upgrade my internet speed from att dsl to comcast.

Also have the 1TB hard drive here all ready.

I've never heard of it either. Looks neat though. I guess I've just never taken a "digital movie appliance" seriously with 6TB of storage on my HTPC. But looking at it a bit, I can see the appeal.

My reason are my own but mostly due to cost factors and features. I need bluray drives to be cheaper, and these appliances to have better support for ripped BD titles without having to change the format to something else. With storage being as cheap as it is I'd like to rip entire BD titles to hard disk, then stream them back on the appliance. I want full support for the lossless codecs too, both bitstream passthrough and decode. Support for iso files would be a big plus too. All without breaking the bank.

The Popcorn supports ISO's and bluerays are not a problem. The popcorn supports a lot of file formats right out of the box.

Getting it set up to get NZB files an such is time consuming from what I here.

It sounds simply like the tech isn't ready for you yet. I run into that a lot. Something is a great product, it's just not ready for my kind of mainstream use yet.

internal decoding for the lossless codecs would be nice too. My reciever can decode them but it doesnt have enough processing power to decode them AND apply audyssey, so it'd be nice to have the option of decoding and sending as multichannel pcm.

Well I got the popcorn today. Plug it in the the wall, internet, and tv hdmi cable. It saw the network ASAP that I have and did not very go though setup. Used the remote to surf into my network computers and chose a .avi file and it played it no problem to to 720P. I only have a 720 plasma. Then played a iso file with flying colors.

I have to install the internal hard drive yet and setup the file share part to go and look for .nzb files and such, that will be another day.

So far I love the thing, it is very slick piece of equipment.

Yep, I have not compressed a movie yet and tried it, but you do lose quality if you do.

It does a great job of streaming the the video's with no interruption. Hard drive well show you in a few days, so no streaming with be needed.

Have you tried anything with subtitles? I wonder if that works ok. I know sometimes you have to point the video player to the correct subtitle file.

I'd rather not compress movies, hence my desire for iso support. That allows the entire disc to be kept as original in a single file.

if you rip them and just retain the 1080p video with the high def codecs and subtitles you're looking at between 15-25gb. You can get terrabyte external hard drives for less than a hundo these days. This size doesnt scare me much. In the end I think I'm more of a traditional player guy anyways.
