End the Hate!

I just don’t understand Harley, owners…. Why can’t we just all get along?

The hate started just after WW2 when returning solders looking for a trill starting looking too motorcycles as a form of escape from the boredom of civilian life. Then Japan, was an enemy of the US so it’s understandable. However, that was 65 years ago…

I think this is killing the spirit of the wave… Some do it, most don’t. I guess the question is… Can you teach an old dog new tricks and will we ever get along?

Sportbike: Triumph Bonneville...the original sportbike!

How you found us: I tripped over ya on my way to the can!

I've been riding for about 39 years. I've had almost every brand of bike made and I've never cared what country of origin it came from. I have a stable of bikes that I've accumulated over the years which include Brit classics, Jap bikes both road and dirt, a new Triumph, a classic Italian HD 350 and an FXR. I wave to every motorcycle that I pass no matter what and no matter what I am riding. Yesterday I went for a ride with my HOG chapter...ALL of the HD riders I was with at the least returned the waves of passing riders no matter what they were riding and most waved either first or simultaneously. I find that riders who don't wave, or don't return waves are new to riding and no nothing about the tradition of waving...there are exceptions of course...but very seldom is it "brand" preference or some kind of hate...more often than not it's ignorance of the tradition...the only way to keep it alive is to keep waving...no matter what.

"Dirt is for racing on...Asphalt is for getting there" OR "Flat trackers go in deeper and come out harder... OR (With apologies to General MaCarthur) "Old motorcycle racers never die, they just slip off the groove and fade into the dust!

If you want to anger a conservative, tell him a lie. To anger a liberal all one must do is tell the truth!

You will get waves from those that are courteous and you won't get waves from those that don't care (usually the hard cores). I wave to everybody and if they don't wave back, oh well. At least I made the effort. The group I usually ride with is very diverse, from sportbikes to cruisers to harley's to full on road trippin' Gold Wings. It don't matter much anymore, we all tease each other about bikes but also help each other out as well. We all have our own taste. We are all just out to have a good time and enjoy the freedom of being on a bike. Cheers.

I sometimes forget to wave or am concentrating on other things on the road so I totally don't notice. There are those days I lack multitasking skills, either that or I'm clutchin' it up and can't take my hands off.

Flipped off a squid the other day. Fucking loser crankin wheelies in heavy traffic. Yep bright thing to do. All it does is to reinforce the stereotype with sportbikes. Looks like another year having a squad car follow you around because of some fucking loser squids actions.

As for waving, usually its the squidies, weekend warriors rubs, bmw elitists and wing dingers that wont wave.

HAHAHAHA - I have done this and always get a kick at how excited they are to wave back - Fuck it, it's two wheels and a motor - Hell, I own one but I still would not wave at anyone while I was riding the Vespirator

I got stuck behind about a dozen Harleys yesterday. They were going 5 under the speed limit. I couldn't even pass because there was like 12 of them. In my experience I'd say its about 50/50(maybe higher) for whether a Harley guy will wave back or not.

i thought it was funny watching a guy on his harley one day, no gear, talking on his cellphone as he road. between the wind, the sound of the bike, and trying to hold it to his ear with his shoulder while paying attention, i dunno how he did it.

My buddies and I do this one. We got it from a harley rider awhile back. So now, we all do it and it's quite comical. The "motorcycle power" fist/forearm pointed towards the sky. We passed albeit 5 HD guys' and they all gave my buddy and I this.

Last week I nodded instead of waved to a passing rider and it was a local Lake in the Hills cop on a bike. He gave me a good nod back. All good.

LOL so true...but with Harleys in general its usually hit or miss for me, even on the cruiser. Then again not all sportbikers are the friendly type either. Cops on bikes tend to always wave back.

I think it's also because you guys are in Chicago. City assholes. Riding in central/southern Indiana I bet I have a 90% ratio of the rider passing by waving back. I can only thing of ONE guy that didn't wave back after passing him twice and even then it was last year.
