Damn Jury Duty

Well, I lived in Illinois until I was 23, and never once got a jury summons...I got one in 8 months of living in California. So I figure I go, get dismissed, and be good for another year...the lady informs us this morning they're starting four big trials this morning, one lasting at least 3 weeks. The lady said most everyone here today would at least get called into the courtroom. DAMN!! Oh well, at least my employer pays unlimited jury duty.

Be thankful for that. Not having the financial hardship of serving is nice. Enjoy being a part of the system, and learning how it works. You'll be suprised how interesting it is overall.

+1. It might be pretty cool.

Thank you for doing your civic duty.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

Yeah, if its a cool case, it will be bad ass...I'm interested in law anyway, so it should be interesting

Also, In California, you get $15/day, plus $0.34/mi one way mileage...I guess they don't care how you get home...but I'm riding the bike, ao it should more than cover gas.

And, there's a fair amount of hot blondes here today, so I guess I really can't complain.

If it's an interesting case(murder), it gets pretty "cool" so to speak. I'm on the forensic side of the law system and I've seen some pretty interesting cases to say the least.

How do they expect you to take 3 weeks off of work to be on a jury? What if your employer doesn't pay you, are you suppose to pay all your bills with $15/day?

Yeah, there's a spot you mark for maximum days your employer will pay when you get there...and california state and federal employees get unlimited jury duty pay as well.

It's actually a civil trial over a false citizens arrest about an investegator for the cable company discovering some people stealing cable and then arresting them. Not as cool as I was hoping, but it might still be interesting. I got about a 1 in 3 chance of getting chosen after lunch to actually go to trial...I'm on a panel of about 45 potential jurors right now.

The judge said the presentation of evidence would take 6-7 days...seriously?? For what??

From my limited experience of being in and around a courtroom and the legal system, it's more formality and boring and bullshit that makes you wonder when it became such a joke than anything else.

a seasoned cop buddy of mine also says that saying u agree with 100% of Police Dept. arrests all the time will get u out of serving...
