VIN # Question, kind of important

So possibly a stupid question here (Wait NO question is stupid rite! )

If someone where to be buying "Said" Motorcycle, and "Said" buyer was applying for a loan to purchase this Motorcycle but needed the VIN number from this motorcycle... Is there any Potential Risk(s) involved in communicating that VIN number to potential buyer for Loan purposes???

With all the Fraud Bullshit that goes down these days I was just curious!? Any thoughts/experiences/Urban Legends I'll take em'

THANKS!

Tom

uhm, as far as i know, there is no need to get a vin number specific yet if he is just applying for the loan...if he has the loan approved, then he should just get it off the title...

maybe the banks changed their format, but who knows...

...plus my gf was with me saying "omg slow down, slow down" and I was thinking "Lose annoying squalk box in passenger seat, afford more mods and have less weight in the car and on the back of the bike"...so i dumped her and I'm single again as usual...HERE KITTY KITTY!!!

I am guessing the banks want it to check the history of the vehicle.

Yea I'm not entirely sure and I'm sure that all banks are not created equally But I do know that I needed the VIN for the bike I bought last to give them, for whatever verification...

Yea I'm sure it's part of the approval process so they can pull specs of some sort maybe...?

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

Banks ask for the VIN number of the vehicle before they will give you a loan. I'm pretty sure this has been SOP since the beginning of time

They obviously don't want to loan you $20,000 if you plan on buying a vehicle worth $1000. I'd guess the banks use the VIN to verify the type of vehicle, (and therefore the approximate value)

Some insurance companies state to not give out the VIN. Not sure why as it is very easily seen on any vehicle. The only reason for a loan or insurance institution to ask for it is to get accurate information regarding a vehicle.

+1 TO EVERYBODY!

I didn't think there was to much to it, but just wanted to be sure! Up until the past year or so I've always done all my buying/selling and financing through dealers and wit todays day and age don't want to do something that could potentially set me up for some sort of disaster... So again thanks for all the input!

Hopefully this means I'm nearing a sale!!!!! (We'll see if the financing goes through! ha.)

Rep for everybody!
