Costco / Sam's Club / Neither...?

So the girly and I, after slacking on getting on the whole sale bandwagon for a long time, decided maybe it's time.

What are your guys' experiences with these branches?

There's a Sams Club about 5 minutes from me, and a Costco about 15 or 20 minutes away. Is there any real difference? Should we stick with convenience or worth driving further for Costco?

Or, do you guys figure it's better to buy what you need when you need it vs. bulk?

depends what your getting. Costco has had a better produce selections and meat quality. The dry goods are the same from place to place. Then again the only reason I shop there is because i have 2 fridges and a huge vertical freezer.

I was a sams club member for years until a costco opened up nearby.

Higher end furniture, electronics, clothes etc IMO...rest is the same as Sams. Plus they have a great and detailed highly visible return policy.

For just you and the woman though, the bulk sizing might be inconvenient.

Does Sam's have it's own brand name like Costco?

This is true. Seems to attract more of the Walmart crowd as where Costco is more the Target crowd.

Is that because Sam's is owned by walmart?

Go with Amazon Prime. Free 2-day shipping on all items for $80/year. Free one month trial.

Amazon has everything that Costco/Sam's Club has, including a lot of food and stuff.

I have compared them and sams is usually cheaper if they have the same items. Most of the time the items are not the same. Its a different model etc. Costco generally has the better elctronics etc like others said. Both are not bad, just depends on what you want. I personally do not buy my electronics from these places and choose sams club for the simple reason they are closer to me and more of them. I used to have both memberships but if I need something from costco I will get another family member to pick it up or go in there asking about the membership and get a free pass for the one time. Go in both and see which you prefer.

9i am actually at both...and it doea depend on wht u want to get...

i go to sams and pick up work jeans and dryfood, pop and other stuff there along with meat...

costco has a better selection of frozen food...

go to both and actually go down every isle...remember this, sams club is associated with walmart, so you will get a larger selection of some stuff...but costco, has some stuff that sams club doesnt...

...plus my gf was with me saying "omg slow down, slow down" and I was thinking "Lose annoying squalk box in passenger seat, afford more mods and have less weight in the car and on the back of the bike"...so i dumped her and I'm single again as usual...HERE KITTY KITTY!!!

I've got both, and use the costco card far more regularly. Plus their food selection is better.

I heard Costco carried 1.5 liter bottles of the Gin I love but I have not seen it yet. I will switch instantly when that happens.

Costco has a MUCH better meat department. Grilling season is coming up. Think kick ass Ribeyes. Everything seems to be a little better quality than Sam's. I had both, and let Sam's go this year. $.02

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

Sam's vs Costco

I can't cut and paste the whole article without it looking like a trainwreck, so here is the source.

http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com...-cheapest.aspx

WTF is a BJ's? It sorta sounds like a place I'd shop just so I can say I'm going to get some BJ's.

Thanks for the article. Comparing the prices on a few items like the eggs, chix breast, coffee, tide and the dog food I spend less on those at a combination of Jewel, Target and Shop and Save (a local grocery store).

Yeah, my Sam's club expires the beginning of next month...I thought of switching to CostCo because I feel they have a better electronics selection (And killer return policy), but the truth is I get everything for equal or less at Food4Less in Bolingbrook, just about two miles from me.

For being damn near in a ghetto, Food4Less is a very clean, well run grocery store!
