My vote is that the racking was not installed correctly. I have hit racking going pretty damn fast with battery powered reach equipment and just bent the beams. If the racking is not bolted into the floor its a whole different story.

You know, that's probably the first one where I would be *kinda* on his side. Yes, incredibly stupid to hit it like that, but the whole rack shouldn't come down if you knock out one of the corners.

Typical uneducated responses. My brother in law works as a structural engineer, and has verified that a collapse like this would only be possible with detonation charges placed along the first and second shelves. You can tell by the way the shelves fall inward that it's definitely a controlled demolition. In fact, if you freeze the video at 0:11, you can see the charges being detonated. Almost certainly an inside job.

Stop believing everything the media tells you! WAKE UP SHEEPLE.

Warehouse racking is designed to prevent that from happening. Forklifts bang into that shit all the time.

Whoever put that up didn't assemble it correctly and/or the racking was overloaded and/or it wasen't acnhored properly. The forklift driver probally has a good case against the company

EDIT: what evil skinny said

Eric

Definitely a controlled demolition.

WAKE UP.

The company that designed and old that rack system should be out of business.

I would say its their fault. Yeah this guy slowly hit it, but that happens in a warehouse.

I would hope the poor guy didn't get fired. He was going slow, probably couldn't see the far corner of his load very well, and just kissed that rack. Like others have said racking should take a pretty decent hit and not be affected. My dad has worked in warehouses most all of his life, and I have worked in them for ~5 years (I know it's not long but I'm only 23...) I've hit a few pretty hard, and seen other people hit them much harder, and heard some crazy stories, the racking has never swayed....let alone done anything like that.
