Hey Chills!

What's up with this La Niña talk. Does this mean an extra hot and wet summer? I read that April's oceanic surface temps are below average for April in some areas.

Mort read this, it might answer some of your questions.

Quote:
Over the United States, La Niña impacts are strongest during the Northern Hemisphere winter and typically weaken during the spring. During December 2008-February 2009, tropical precipitation anomalies reflected La Niña, characterized by a westward retraction of deep tropical convection towards Indonesia, suppressed precipitation centered on the Date Line, and enhanced rainfall over northeastern South America (Fig. 6). In the United States, La Niña was associated with drier-than-average conditions across the southern tier of states (extending into California and the mid-Atlantic), and wetter-than-average conditions over the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys and northern Intermountain West (Fig. 7).

From what I hear La Nina will be stronger this year than last... I'll check into it and get back to you.

So far I've spent the last 4 hours dealing with pig flu... not me, but coordinating my company's efforts to respond to it.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

I'm not worried about El Niño or La Niña. I'm more afraid of El Culo ... when that hits, weather sucks ass.

Dante: [to Randal] You never go ass-to-mouth!
Randal: [to Dante] Would you grow up!
Becky: [to Dante] OK, I'm only telling you this because we're friends, but sometimes, in the heat of the moment, it's forgivable to go ass-to-mouth.
Randal: [chuckling] Ha! I knew it.

I did a little research and we did have a La Nina winter, which explains some of the erradic temperatures and abnormally low temperatures we saw and the high amount of snow, too. The SST (sea surface temperatures) in the Pacific stretching from the Baja to Hawaii have been cooler but are forecasted to become more moderate. So the La Nina effect will smooth out and end by June.

So La Nina won't have an effect on the weather this summer.

Here's one of the sites I used as reference.
