Mr. Waller is the Lake County District Attorney, his office would be responsible
for filing further ( criminal ) charges in this case. If you feel strongly about
this case and distracted driving in general, you should send a PROFESSIONAL
note with your name and address to Mr. Waller.

I am sending this to Mr. Waller's Office......

_________________________________________________

Mr. Waller,

The death of Anita Zaffke in Lake Zurich on May 3rd apparently due to
distracted driving is a real tragedy. While we are all exposed to the risk
of harm from distracted drivers, no one is more so than Motorcyclists.

This could have as easily been a bus full of kids, your mother driving home
from shopping or someones father running to get the family dinner.

Would request you pursue this case to the utmost extent of the law to
send a message to all distracted drivers that there are consequences
to taking the life of another human being while driving carelessly.

Thank You

Feel free to rip it off and copy it..... ESPECIALLY those of you in his district.

Without your name, address and phone number, it will be discarded / ignored.

I have a bad habbit of sitting at nutral at the stops. I do however tap my brakes to catch peoples attention.

I've also noticed many riders pull right up to the bumper of the car in front of them...that's a no-out situation.

This is getting a lot of press in the local media. Not that it will probably amount to jack shit for the average driver, but at least people are hearing about it.

My condolences to the family.

The article said that Hunt was cited with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Is it not an instant arrest if your pulled over for 50 in a 25? You can kill someone and get away with a citation???? What a fucked up world.
Sounds like shes had a family too. I hope they file charges, I mean she took a LIFE because she was painting her nails.

Give it a day or two to pan out. Lake county isnt that much of a push over they explain what they are waiting on

The Lake County State's Attorney's office says it's looking into criminal charges against a woman who allegedly was painting her fingernails while driving and fatally struck a stopped motorcyclist over the weekend.

"We are looking into charges in the case," Assistant State's Atty. Patricia Fix said this morning. "But we are waiting for results of blood and urine tests and waiting for the results of an accident reconstruction, as well as any other technical evidence we can derive from the scene."

Authorities say Anita Zaffke, of the 1500 block of Eddy Lane in Lake Zurich, stopped at the intersection of Route 12 and Old McHenry Road at around 5:45 p.m. Saturday as the traffic light turned from green to yellow.

The driver of a Chevrolet Impala behind Zaffke, Lora Hunt, 48, of Morris, told police "she was painting her nails as she drove and did not see [the motorcycle] until contact was already made," according to a Lake County Sheriff's Department incident report.
Zaffke, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown a distance from her Honda motorcycle, according to Lake County Coroner Dr. Richard Keller. Her son, Greg, said this morning his mother was also wearing a bright yellow cycling jacket.

"It appears to be a tragic accident and it appears [Zaffke] did nothing wrong," Lake County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott Morrison said Sunday. "She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and she could not have done anything to avoid it."

Zaffke died about an hour after the crash at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, Keller said. An autopsy was scheduled for this morning.

Hunt was cited with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. She could not be reached for comment this morning.

And what happens when the lady's tests come back with no evidence of drugs or alcohol? What if she was just negligent? If they only give her failure to stop to avoid an accident, that's some straight up bull shit.

Look at the reader comments on the Tribs web article. Some of them are disgusting. I can't beleive some people say the biker had it comming because she was riding a motorcycle.

What if that woman ran over a kid crossing the street. Its no different in my mind

Technically, the motorcyclist would be on bad end on the Darwin spectrum because they were riding a motorcycle.
