Goodbye to Chicago Cycle. Fred has left the building!

As many of you old timers know I worked for Chicago Cycle for 5 years now. As of Thursday my time at Chicago Cycle has ended. I was laid off. From starting as a Sales guy to Internet Sales Manager to finally a Service Manager I have worn many hats in that place. But the entire time taking care of the computers since that is my background.

I have gotten many members on this board some good deals on bikes. But of course I have heard some members get screwed just the same. Its been the hardest job to have when its so close to my "hobby" and I have many connections with people in the sportbike community.

But times change, things change, and it was time for me to move on. Business is very slow at the dealership and many people already know some of the reasons why its so slow.

I left on very good terms with the owners so I dont want to make this a bashing Chicago Cycle post or anything. I am basically letting some of the older members that have still done business with me there that I am no longer there. Many people still came from Naperville, Schaumburg, Libertyville, etc, etc because they knew I would make sure there bike got done right in the service department. And of course some still knew I could get the "Hook Up" done for them when buying a bike. $500 over cost.

So, if anyone knows any Computer Jobs open.. Please send me a PM.

And please I ask this not to be a "F Chicago Cycle" post. We have enough of those already

Long live the Blue Dot!!!!

Interesting timing Fred. Let's keep in touch on that other project. Perhaps we'll be able to check on it sooner rather than later. Either way, best of luck to you!

How about 'F the economy' instead?

What type of 'computer' work are you looking for? Might want to be more specific as there are a handful of IT guys here in different areas (helpdesk, networking, enterprise archecture, etc).

Yeah timing is really strange. I am going to keep in touch for sure. Everything happens for a reason and who knows where I will be next. I dont think it will be a dealership thats for sure. Cars and Motorcycle dealerships are really hurting. 30% loss in sales for Motorcycles accross the country. 5 dealerships close over the winter locally here in chicago. I am sure there is a few more to come thats for sure. I dont want to be on that end of the stick again

Before Chicago Cycle I was at Zurich Insurance doing a Token Ring to Ethernet conversion. Before that I was at Motorola as Second level Help desk. You know the guy that fixes the computers/software when Help desk cant. Server configuration, print servers, web servers. ETC.

Thanks bro. I have run into a couple key people in the last few days for some track days. What was really weird, I just picked up my bike from Safety First Racing for some suspension work and it happened about 2 hours after it.. Maybe someone wants me to spend more time at the track

I still plan to do BlackHawk this month and also AutoBahn with STT.

We ran TR at Ameritech when I was there.. I still have a MUX sitting in a box in storage
(guess that was 97... over a decade ago.. damn. time flies)

Token Ring was way better than ethernet back then... Then again Beta was better than VHS.. Microchannel was better than ISA... Sometimes better isn't enough

Sorry about the layoff bro... I got laid off from BofA going on a couple of years ago.. At a pretty good place now but it's really small... I swear every day I feel like I am walking in the door waiting for the other shoe to drop

Best of luck

Can't agree more here ... 'F' the economy!

We lost LVC in Naperville and ProSource in Morris (and probably others I can't recall right now) because of this crap economy. And for the places still open and functioning, I am now sad to read that some are resorting to lay people off.

Hopefully for those places that support CLSB we can continue to bring our business to them and hopefully stop this trend: this will hopefully keep everyone happy ... and employed!
