National Credit Ratings

So the credit service I belong to compare me to the rest of the country and tells me what percentage I am at compared to others. I have noticed an interesting, but disturbing, trend. My credit score inches up a little every few months. Over the last few months it has had very little movement, yet the percentage of people with a lower score has changed dramatically.

I used to have a score better than 77% of the country. Now my score better than 89% of the country! That goes to show the negative affect of people's credit for those struggling.

what site do you use? is it free?

i used to get a fico credit score from wamu before they changed to chase in march. it said that i had a 680, which was pretty close to what my credit score came to be when i was buying my bike.

This is going to be a long-term relationship

that pissed me off. Part of what I liked so much about my WAMU card was that I had my credit score on the website. Chase blows.

Darn right that blows. I refuse to pay to see my own FICO score ... and I don't think I should have to.

I hate the credit system. Went from over 700 to low 600s a few years back. Aparently a $15 late fee from a phantom parking ticket went to collections and when I went to shop for a new car 2 years later, I was getting denied everywhere and couldn't figure out why. Man was I heated.

That alone shouldn't drop your rating that much. Not all late paytments are created equal. The person financing you WILL look at what was late and take that into consideration. A late morgate payment is bad, a late payment on a library fine is not a big deal.

If you haven't already, you should pull your credit report. I'm betting there is something else dragging you down.

I know first hand what it takes to get to a low 600. And one unpaid parking ticket will not drag it down to that level on its own, even if it goes to collections

Eric

And the credit system is very consumer friendy IMO. You just have to know the rules and know your rights.

There are a lot of ways to remove, "inaccurate information," on your own if you know how to do it.

In my opinion, this will change in the next few years. Now is the time to repair damaged credit

I don't know what my score is but when my CC company upgrades me to a black card I know there are a lot of people hurting. What used to be designated for multi-millionares and celebrities is being extended to common folk who actually pay there bills

I'm still fighting some old bogus collections from 8 years ago. It's still dragging my credit down. Coke head room mate FTL!

Though 8+ years of flawless credit has helped a bunch.

I currently know of no way to look up FICO scores for free. If there was such a thing, I'd be all over it.

The only thing that's close is http://www.annualcreditreport.com ... Free (for real free) report that you can pull once a year which taps all 3 credit bureaus ... problem is when I got my reports, none of them will show you your FICO (credit) score. You still have to pay to see that # ... what the flock.

That's my point exactly.

FICO (or approximate) isn't free.

Yep, same happen here. Just had mine run for a refi last month and mine was a few points higher than last year. 803 avg between all 3
Now on the inverse, there are people that are having their homes foreclosed on in my area, not many but enough to bring my home value down
