Need help finding a CBR 954 Engine

I need help finding an engine for a 2002/03 CBR 954 with less than 10K miles on it. Any local places that part out bikes?

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

I saw that one, but "Stator & cover are not included. Does not include cam angle sensor." I just want to be able to lift it and drop it in.

The other one is starting at $999 not including shipping. I can get one for cheaper.

Ideally, I was hoping to find one local. Any places in the area that deal in parted out bikes?

...plus my gf was with me saying "omg slow down, slow down" and I was thinking "Lose annoying squalk box in passenger seat, afford more mods and have less weight in the car and on the back of the bike"...so i dumped her and I'm single again as usual...HERE KITTY KITTY!!!

The motor is fine. But it is what it is. It's got 55k miles and burns about a quart of oil every 1000 miles. I figure if I am going to spend just under $500 to fix the clutch, I might as well just drop a new motor in.

Try the CBR forum as well. While I don't know if they are local, there is at least one part-out of a 954 on.

I found nothing local. Try offering that guy on the Ebay auction for $999 half and see if he will take it. As for the stator cover, you can easily pull that off the old engine and put it on the new one. I had to do this myself on my last engine, don't let that little tidbit stop you from getting a good deal. Just buy a new gasket and it will be a few screws, one cable to connect, done. At least on the gixxer it is that way.

A new stator cover/gasket is a BITCH to get on. With the magnetic pull and the paper thin gasket, I wanted to shoot someone lol I am not doing that again.

The 954 they have on crashedtoys has a broken stator. I will have to watch that site though. Thanks for the link.

nope.. 929/954 are the same bike other than the bodywork and extra displacement. same frame even.

and on the decision not to buy because of a broken stator cover.

Not exactly. Already mentioned the difference in displacement which makes a signifcant, noticeable difference in the mid range. It also has better EFI, bigger injectors, and lighter pistons. The 954 frame and swing arm were strengthened and are lighter. The wheels were lightened as well. And last but not least, led taillight.

Rebuild the motor you have. Bore it out. You'll be so fast you'll have to put your stock valve stem caps back on.

+1 if you figure your going to spend a grand bore over the engine and just rebuild it.

Oh man WSE's got issues.

Just put the new clutch in and ride. Honda are pretty reliable on average, and even if you get a used engine there is no telling what condition that is in. Think of when you sell your old one, you yourself will probably say it has only been ridden by your gramma for 1200 miles. Nobody would ever lie about a used part would they? Bottom line, you might be in the same situation after you get the engine. Have you done a leak down test or compression test on your current engine yet? That will give you some clues as to it's condition so you can go from there.

dude its a honda. if it aint broke dont fix it.

as for the clutch. wtf is $500? I just looked and its $150 for new steels and fibers. if your steels are ok you can clean them up and reuse. now you got $70 for some new fibers.

the earlier r1's would burn that much oil from day 1. why is that an issue? just add oil.

Id just fix the clutch and worry about if you want a fresh engine over the winter. its riding season man!
