Let's see here. Dealers aren't selling cars. The factory makes too many cars. Let's have fewer places to sell what they have too many of. BRILLIANT.

Wonder what will become of the excess inventory at all of these closing dealerships.

There's going to be a lot of vacant lots soon.

Maybe they were thinking dealers aren't selling cars so why keep them open and pay overhead and payroll to a bunch of guys standing around doing nothing.

Chrysler Corporate does not pay salaries at a dealership. Dealership is still owned by an individual.

I've been to a pontiac dealership when they closed it down. But everything was pretty much gone. Sad seeing a huge place just empty. I got maybe 50 service manuals for free and found 3 fiero microfiche books brand new in wrapper.

I know theres a few people that somehow have connections and buy up all the specialized tools from the dealerships and resell them.

Not sure where the OEM parts and vehicles are going to go.

They should just let the dealerships die on their own vs shutting them down.

And thats why when I saw that yesterday on the news. how obama can just say "so sowwy, no job fo you"

General motors has to close dealerships too. Sucks to see the mechanics that have a beard working at a dealership for 30 years losing their job.

While it is sad to see them fail, lack of competitive products, lack of cost control, lack
of quality ( real and perceived ) for decades brought us to this.

They still don't have a working profitable business model and now they are wasting
our tax money ( good money after bad ) to try to shore it up when it will *not*
without a change in their business plan.

Hey look the water is leaking out a big hole in the side of the pool !

Bailout = quick add more water to the pool !

It is sad ...... necessary ..... but sad.

That all said, I am not sure how a dealer existence obligates the mothership
( GM or Chrysler ) financially. It's not loacl salaries, they are paid by the dealer,
it may be in extended credit and lot planning ( the loan for the cars that are on
the lot at the dealer ) but I am not entirely clear on what the obligation is.

A dealer going out of business obviously reduces some form of
corporate financial obligation.

That is what I'm wondering. How does Obama logically determine that by closing dealerships, the economy will improve? More people are out of jobs now, more people dependent on goverment money. I don't get it.

We buy parts from Napleton and Continental. Guess we will be getting them all from Dodge City now.

We have a customer's Jeep over at Napleton right now that they've had for 3 weeks trying to fix it, guess we better get it out of there.

Dodge City is long gone. Phelan Dodge just opened up in the old Lincoln Mercury building. Ken Hook L/M was the last 1 in that building.

That's what I meant, Phelan Dodge. We never changed the listing in my shop management software so every time I look up the phone number I look up Dodge City so in my head it's still Dodge City. They took over the old Dodge City parts warehouse too.

Ken Hooks was called Prast L/M before it closed. Or was it the other way around, Prast, then Ken Hooks?

Ken Hook was last. Somehow Joe Rizza took thatover. Moved L/M into the N. riverside store.
