Crash in Buffalo Grove

Looks like a newer GSXR1000 (blue/white) hit a car in the left side on Buffalo Grove Rd just north of Dundee. Think the car pulled out of an apartment complex and was turning left. I believe the bike pulled out of a side street and went right. The car pulled out about a half block down.

Right down the street from me. The bike is in bad shape. By the time I went down by the scene the ambulance was gone. over 3 hours later though the car and the bike are still down there along with emergency crew. That can not be a good sign.

That sucks. I hope he/she is ok. I couldn't really piece what you're saying together.....did you say it seemed to be the car's fault for pulling out in front of the bike?

Motorcyclist killed in Buffalo Grove crash
May 17, 2009 5:28 PM | 1 Comment

A Buffalo Grove man was killed this afternoon when his motorcycle struck a car pulling out of a residential street onto Buffalo Grove Road in the northwest suburb, authorities said.

The motorcyclist was headed south on Buffalo Grove Road at about 12:55 p.m., said Buffalo Grove Police Sgt. Scott Kristiansen. As he approached Old Oak Road a sedan pulled out across traffic and the motorcycle struck the side of the car, ejecting the rider, who was not wearing a helmet.

When police arrived, the rider was unconscious, Kristiansen said. The man, identified as Michael Lechner, 23, of the 300 block of Lincoln Terrace, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

It was not clear what caused the crash, and police are still investigating, Kristiansen said. There is a stop sign on Old Oak Road at the intersection, he added.

The driver and a passenger in the car were not injured in the crash.

Buzz up!

A 25-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle collision at about 12:54 p.m. Sunday in Buffalo Grove.

Police identified the victim as Michael Lechner, of the 300 block of Lincoln Terrace in Buffalo Grove.

Police said a car exiting Old Oak Drive collided with Lechner, who was traveling southbound on Buffalo Grove Road.

Police said Lechner was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

A second accident resulted in the congestion caused by the fatal crash. A car waiting in line for traffic to proceed through the intersection of the accident became impatient and made a U-turn, colliding with a different motorcycle. Police said only minor injuries resulted from that collision.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Southbound Buffalo Grove Road at Golf View Terrace is closed while investigators are on the scene.

Holy fuck! I was on Buffalo Grove road and was wondering what the fuck happened when we saw all those squad cars. Had no idea it was a downed rider. We made a U-turn to go back up north on Buffalo Grove road because they weren't letting anybody go southbound.

We passed near Buffalo Grove today on our girls only ride. Shelly - maybe God gave you a sign when he re-directed you and you missed that turn today for those roads.

RIP to that poor kid and his family. How horrible.

Im watching cars more closely these days.... I've seen way to many drivers pull out without looking, running red lights on a right turn, etc.... saw some lady almost run over two kids crossing the road on Friday while she decided not to look while running a red light on a right turn and that was at the corner of a high school.

We have to watch for them, they are never going to care enough to watch for us.

it makes sense that if you're going to ride a vehicle with no safety equipment like fenders, air bags, seat belts, etc., you will die if you get hit. No matter that other drivers are doing their nails or playing the trumpet, you don't have a chance. Don't expect me to change my driving habits just because you're on a flimsy bike with no protection.

Maybe it's time to start riding with a little "protection".
