Kiddieland Closing

heard rumors due to economy but i guess its due to the landowner. saw previews on channel 7 news.

from wikipedia
Quote:
A dispute developed between Shirley and Glenn Rynes, who own the land that Kiddieland occupies, and Ronald Rynes, Jr. and Cathy and Tom Norini, who own the amusement park itself.[1] The landowners sued the park owners in 2004, claiming that the park had an improper insurance policy and that fireworks were prohibited in the lease. The case was thrown out in a Cook County court and later in an appeals court. The landowners declined to extend the lease on the land in early 2009.[1]

The rides are expected to be sold by late October, when the park closes for the season.[2]

I could say something that pedobear would say, but I will respect the wishes of the owners of CLSB.

Rumors say that the family that owns the land wants to sell it, while the other side of the family wants to keep the park, and this feud has been going on for years.

I believe Saturday and Sunday will be the last days that Kiddieland will be open.

noon-8pm i believe are the hours.

i think they already sold off some of the chairs to the rides. And i'm assuming theres going to be an auction for the rides and games etc....

RIP

I heard that the part of the family that owns the land wants to develop the land. The part of the family that owns the park has no choice but to go along with that. What are they going to build there? Condos that nobody is going to buy? A strip mall that's going to be empty? I know the park only makes money in the spring/summer. But that is better than making no money on empty condos or shopping center.

Maybe all this closing news is fake so they will get a huge bump in attendance. Someone is going to "save" the park and it going to be open next year.

I came here to drink some beer and kick some ass. And it looks like we are all out of beer.

Damn shame. That place had a good niche, it was affordable and was good for little kids that were too young to go to six flags.
Not sure what they will do with the land, there are condos right down the street on North ave that still have some vacant spots so condos would be a bust. Maybe Triton college can buy it. Think one branch of their campus butts right up to it. Commercial real estate around there is really dead. Hell, that closed driving range on 1st ave has been for sale for over 10yrs with no buyers.

Maybe Crook County should stop assraping commercial real estate owners with obnoxious property taxes! Oh, did I just say that out loud?

Agreed. I took my boy there twice this summer. He's a year old so it was perfect for him because the rides were small enough and safe enough for someone his age.

I grew up with the kids who's family owned Sauzers KiddieLand in Schererville

Used to go there with my parents as a kid.. Was really sad to see it go... and after it did the land for the most part sat vacant for a really long time

Maybe I will take Keira there on Saturday.. Having her birthday party on Sunday... So it could be a little pre-party party for her and I

Kiddieland Final Days
9/26/2009

Sadly, On May 18, 2009 Kiddieland announced that it would be closing it's doors forever at the end of the 2009 season. That date is rapidly approaching and we will be open to the public for the last weekend of operation on September 26 & 27, 2009 from Noon until 8:00PM. Many guests have come back to visit for the final time already and we say a final good-bye to people every day. Guests should make plans for their final visits now because we expect very large crowds on our final days.

The driving range closed because of a conflict with kiddieland. Something about the balls going over the net and hitting riders. I think the range is/was owned by the same family.
Anybody remember when there was a drive-in theatre just north of there? Triton east campus is there now.

One side of the family owns the land. Other family owns the park.

It is the same family. but ones the inlaws or somecrap like that.

people that own the park want to keep it forever. Land owners want to sell it to developers.

This is for real. They are having the auctions for the rides scheduled.

Rumor has it, a cosco might be built. but thats the only rumor that stands out.

I haven't been there in probably 20 years but even as a kid I remember the place being a dump.

There used to be an indoor amusement park right down the street from where I work. I think it was called Playland Park. It closed forever ago. Now there's a trailer park there.
