Should I change my middle name?

My middle name is Allen, honoring my father. Besides giving my mom some dna, he has done nothing for me. In a nutshell, he has only caused me a headache for over 20 years. I have thought of legally changing my middle name. Is it worth the PITA to do? Im not sure. I had no other name in mind, so I was thinking of using thirteen as my middle name. What do you think?

Thirteen? Maybe you don't care, but the vast majority of people will think you're strange. If your current name bothers you so much, then I say change it. BUT not to thirteen........maybe twelve? Or pi.

I voted change it to 13. I don't think it will be worth the time but do think it would be great!

How about the "@" sign. Some people in China tried to do it, and China wouldn't let them. But yeah, if you do 13...do the numbers 1 and 3, not the word thirteen. That'd be cool!

Or realize that all that you are.... the good and the bad have connections
back to your past.... one of the most powerful connections is your parents.

And that while parts of you and part of your name come from your father
you are *not* your father....by choice..... not accident. And because you

If I remember correctly someone tried to change their name to a number and it was deemed not allowable by a court. Maybe someone here who actually knows law can back that or bash it.

If you did change it to 13, you'd have to spell it out I believe.

Blarney, good stuff man. I've been in similar debates as Dave about changing my name, so what you've said makes sense to me.

Middle names mean nothing.

The only time you hear it is when you are on the news and you have done something real bad.

Thus the middle name Danger.

You need a middle name to be distinguished from other people for legal reasons. You don't want to be confused with a Dave that has a 138 credit score, 12 credit cards maxed out, and living next door.

It DOES happen.

I agree with Blarney and that it will be a PITA. BUT, if you do change it, 13 is just as good as any other name you can think of. It's unique and its you.

And another +1 here. Changing your name is just a little paper work now, but what happens in 2 years when you file more paper work for something else and you have to list other names you've had. Then you need paperwork supporting that it was done legally. Just seems like more of a hassle.
Plus every time someone asks you why you changed your middle name, you'd have to think of your dad when you tell the story. But thats my .02
