CA's Angeles Crest Highway

ABC's Nightline ran a story tonight about California's "most dangerous road", the Angeles Crest Highway. They showed a bunch of YouTube videos of sportbikes raging on the road, with some typical discussion of the image resulting from this, plus the number of accidents and deaths, etc. I thought the ABC website might have a clip of the story to post here, but haven't found it yet.

Here's basically a similar story from the LA Times:

It's on their homepage now. I don't know what I was hoping for last night when I saw the preview, but I came away a little disappointed.

i saw it too , the slant seemed to be look what these crazy bikers do and lets put the brakes on it, with just enough counterpoint to keep riders from protesting, the look on martin bashir's face at the end told it all, he looked like he just smelled someone elses fart,,,, but it shows why cali is such a bike heaven

Yeah that is one thing I miss is riding the roads out in Cali. I think its probably the best place to own a bike.

I guess I'll get to find out in person since I'm being sent there for work for a three month assignment. And they offered to ship out my bike!

The sensationalist stories are usually reserved for the big ratings measurement months (February, May, and November) but now with new TV ratings technology thats continous, these pieces show up more randomly. Probably to serve some political agenda. Is there a bill pending in the CA legislature about sportbikes?

I worked in Burbank in 1984. I agree that the natives are a bit different. That's why I only accepted a three-month assignment. Not sure I can handle being there permanently.

I rode that road last year and it was a blast. When I was tehre there was no traffic, but yes it is a very popular road and very dangerous once hot-heads arrive. Here is my report on the road:

It did in its on way. Much like Deals Gap, Cherehola FWY, Palomar, and the other big bike popular roads (think Starved Rock also), some riders treat them like their own personal racetrack. Seen pics of people riding full on racebikes on them. Bikes arent the only problem on these roads either. Got a bunch of retards in sports cars tearing up them also.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

If I were to ride with people on those roads and they dragged a knee as pictured, I would probably branch off quickly.

You can drag knees at 30mph. Dont have to be going 130.

I was trying to point out that the street is not the place to be dragging a knee, there is no need to.
