I got the virus

The one thats sweeping the country overnight.... its the one that restarts your computer.. I hear the fix is fairly simple..

I keep my definitions up to date etc...I guess this is just a new one

I hear that it causes your computer to just restart over and over. That sucks!

phozed- Thanks! I just got off the phone with my wife and let her know. She was very confused because she was trying to use the computer last night and it kept shutting off on her! Poor little thing!

I hope it works.

Thanks again!

If your having this problem on XP try running "services.msc" in run and there find the RPC(Remote procedure call) and go to the "recovery" tab on the same RPC window and get the three lines which says " Reboot the computer " and change that to " take no action ".

then go here to dowload patch. You have to save to desktop, reboot and then run the patch. I had it yesturday and this worked for me http://microsoft.com/downloads/detai...displaylang=en

Dont forget to turn rpc services back on when the patch is installed

I just noticed this on my desktop...I think I may have gotten it from using Kazaa.

First off...everything is slow...keyboard, mouse, opening/closing files.

Second...when I click on my favorites or hyperlinks, I get sent to a dam porn site. I try checking my yahoo mail and I'm sent to a porn site. I checked the properties of my favorites and they all seem intact.

I'm also running PCcillin and update daily.

Any suggestions besides removing Kazzaa which I have already done? I never thought too myuch porn would be bad, but this is ridculous

The worm is called LOVSAN and the way it works is that it downloads a file called msblast.exe . Do a search for files with that name. A patch is available from Microsoft:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/se...s/ms03-026.asp

The update is 823980.

It is also available if you have the automatic updates option turned on in Windows XP.

Back up your data periodically, too.

Luckily, I installed this patch this week, but our networks at work are being hit left and right

I'm just referring to the worm that is attacking unprotected Windows users. Apparently it really started hitting people yesterday evening.

To see if this is what is hitting your machine, search for the msblast.exe file. Be sure to search all hidden files and folders as well.

you wouldnt have to search for it, it will show up in your task manager as a process that is running. kill the process, then run the norton removal tool.

np John, let me know if that process was running. if so you have a different virus, and based on your symptoms sounds like one i know.

I havent had any probs at home yet but at the office, we have been getting nailed by 2 viruses in the last 3-4 weeks. LuvGate and Mumu are the file names so beware. One is a virus and the other is a worm. Not fun.

I've had a few friends report that they got it... and some people here in the office got it. I didn't notice anything funny when I used my PC last night - but it's also behind a Linux firewall, so I may be ok for now (???). I guess I'll FTP the fix to my server at home now (just in case I can't get the PC online long enough to download the fix...)

My friend said he got the worm and that it would kick him off the net every 10 minutes (still using dial-up). Is this the same virus/worm?
