Oak Brook REPRESENT!

Read about this the other day.... Looks like this guy just made it famous today (boingboing got ahold of the story... )

http://www.boingboing.net/2009/10/08...ates-poor.html

Some pretty priceless stuff in the article.. Here is the original from the Herald..
http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=325508

He wants to make little kids cry to sleep..
Quote:
"I wanted that kid to lose sleep that night," a grinning Xinos says Wednesday,
says he doesn't like poor people and doesn't want them in his town (ok... well... I imagine more people feel this way than say it)...

I loved this quote
Quote:
"Don't cry crocodile tears about people who are making $100,000 a year wiping tables and putting the books back on the shelves," Xinos smirked, apparently referencing the fired head librarian, who has advanced degrees and made $98,676 a year. He said Oak Brook had to "stop indulging people in their hobbies" and "their little, personal, private wants."
and now.. to top it all off.. The librarians are looking into or just becoming TEAMSTERS!

priceless...

Teamster librarians!

oh and he took pot shots at the teamsters too... heh... I wonder how all this is gonna play out.. shit.. this guys kickin CLSB's ass in the drama arena... next thing you know we are gonna hear stories about him on the side of a.....

Quote:
Xinos says he speaks for Oak Brook's view of the Teamsters when he says, "Nobody here likes those kind of people."

HAHA, even if you don't agree with him you have to commend his honesty. No double talk here, he couldn't be more straight forward.

LOL look at the comments and what this toolbag wrote

I wonder about the people at Oak Brook. I mean, electing an obviously un american person as their home owners association president? Constantinos Xinos? What kind of foreigner loving community is that?
Besides, he was a poor kid. Everybody knows poor kids
cannot possibly be sucessful, so I smell rat. Somebody has financed him to use him as a future pawn.
I am sure he is in fact an european communist infiltrator under the orders of the illuminati send to corrupt America. If only Sen. McCarthy were still alive, such people would be send back to their countries where they belong.

close enough to the "oh now he is gonna cry himself to sleep on his enormous pillow"
quote to have me rolling

for some reason that movie cracks my ass up

from what I remember they do.. but they are quite low for the area..

that said property values are inflated a bit due to this fact.. so it's not exactly a free lunch (even with high taxes OB would be expensive... I am not saying it's expensive because of the low taxes.. I am saying IMHO it is a bit more expensive due to this fact and it probably more than offsets any savings in the 10-15 year range)

No different than a manager of a business, with an MBA, getting paid bigger bucks, to handle the day to day affairs.

You actually need a Masters in Library Science to become a full blown librarian. Not the same as a desk person, who checks your books in and out, and shelves stuff. They actually manage inventory, personnel, and other behind-the-scenes aspects of the library.

Don't bother... not enough "real" librarian jobs to go around. You'll be competing with the rest of the English degree undergrads who pursued this as their only path to riches.

btw.. about OB and taxes

Quote:
Although many out-of-towners equate Oak Brook with Oakbrook Center mall, it is home to some 9,000 residents who live in upscale subdivisions with sprawling lots and plenty of mature trees. It is centrally located so residents can get to the Loop, northern or southern suburbs in a half hour. Most of the homes here are single-family, so it's a family-oriented village, not a magnet for the single, clubbin' crowd.

Upside: If you love being surrounded by shops, Oak Brook is the place for you. It has every retailer, from boutique to big-box. Ditto for restaurants, which range from fast food to fine dining. Many subdivisions are gated, which suits residents who want security and privacy. Despite the maze of highways that crisscross the village, Oak Brook has 592 acres of park and forest preserve land for nature lovers. And, residents enjoy a tax break that's hard to find. They pay no municipal taxes, which reduces real estate tax bills.

Downside: Oak Brook is divided into eight school districts and its neighborhoods are separated by highways and corporate campuses, which makes for a collection of communities in a community. Unlike older towns like Hinsdale, it has no downtown. With home prices ranging from about $500,000 to $3 million, housing is mostly for the affluent. The village is not directly served by any CTA or Metra trains.
I used to work at OBC (ComEd) for a few years... It's not a bad place.. The McDonalds estate is pretty awesome

I know of a librarian in a certain school district that makes over $80,000 to do absolutely nothing but socialize. Her job couldn't possibly be more secure either.
