we need to liven up bike night, help pick a route.

i dont know about you guys, and its always cool to meet new people and talk with our friends, but ill be honest, after an an hour i get bored if i am not doing nothing, and well going to naperville to hang out some more, is kinda boring too the eye candy is nice, but i think it would be cool to do a ride afterwards.

this ride needs to be posted with directions, and such CAUSE new or old members 60-70 bikes, following in traffic and lights, we are bound to get seperatted.

so if this sounds cool to you, help me with ideas where to ride too, and the final end spot.

i dont care about THIS ride after bike night about people or the cops knowing EXACTLY our route, cause we shouldnt be fucking around no way, with a group that size or new people in it.

so if someone screws off be ready to face the cops, or US if someone gets out of line.

dont ya think its a good idea?

i mean we still meet from 6-8pm and around 8:15 we all go on a ride, and since the directions will be posted there isnt a need to hurry or run lights or wait for people to much cause they will catch up at one point and we will still see each other at the end, and its cool as hell when we come thundering down the road in such a group

help me pick some spots to ride to afterwards will ya.

Maybe Ken a nice cruise around to downtown and possibly a stop at the planetarium to see the Mars deal. Thats when its supposed to be the best anyway. Then maybe a nice shot with some cameras for future stuff. who knows just an idea.....

thats a good idea, but there isnt much parking I THINK around that spot sometimes the cops are ok and sometimes we gotta get out of there.

but i am not sure on that parking issue there.

plus isnt there a certain time that drive gets closed?

i could be wrong on everything but its 1 good idea!

Just checked there website. they close at 4:30 on weeknights. you'd think they would be open at night. Since its a Planetarium.

A good idea would be to pick a central location a little more north of us so we can meet up with the north side guys. Cailin had mentioned that she had the hook up in a reastaurant...

yeah, planetarium closes at 4:30, and they close off the whole pier road at 11, I think cause the last time I was there at 12 I was mad I couldnt drive back there, and have a nice view of the city, but it would be cool to go there, if they are close we could always go riding LakeShoreDRIVE, then turn around and go to Navy Pier, or even better hit AMOCO station and show all those squids over there how to do stunts,

this sounds like a great idea ody, although the only route i know is the lsd to sheridan. we could easily pick some spots downtown to stop and light up, and wait for those runnin late too.

ok so over all it seems like go down town, ok cool.

ya all think we should do the sheridan ride down there?

we need to find a point to go east from strats instead of going north and then east then south ya know.

OR still do it that way?

didn't a few people go down on sheridan road, though? I don't know if I'd feel comfortable taking it at night.

well going slow helps not to push the limits, and if someone falls at the legal speed, i dont think they should be riding with a group. i mean anyone that comes with needs to know how to ride, and this wont be a fast ride of no kind, more like a cruise.

it isnt good to be blazing anywhere with more then 7 people MAX on a FAST ride. but thats not the kind of riding we are talking here for this kind of ride after bike night

thats something else bro.

I agree with Vince on this one. I think hitting the planetarium would be great with the mars thing happening, however, how many other people will be out there trying to get away from the city lights to see mars? I think that would be a cool route, especially taking sheridan out of the city. Hope I can come out this week's bike night.

If you want to invade the city, why not go to Montrose harbor. 60 bikes riding out to the point would be killer. All the parks are open 'til 11:00.

hey there...

my boyfriend's restaurant has a HUGE parking lot that would be able to accomodate as many bikes as we want. plus, my boy rides and is friends with many of the area cops, so i don't think we'd get hassled at all (provided we behave ourselves).

the place is Luke's of Carpentersville...it's on route 25 about 5 miles north of I-90. oh, and the food is damn good, too.

Chris might be able to plan a cool riding route if needed...

Nice you see you jingle Cailin

Another thing for this week, I remember gautman had a thread about observing Mars.

From the Cernan Center - Triton College
---
On each clear night from Saturday, August 23rd through Saturday, August 30th, the staff of Triton College's Cernan Earth and Space Center, along with Volunteers from the Chicago Astronomical Society, will host a Mars Watch telescope observing session on the front lawn of the Cernan Center building. Each observing session will start at 9:30 P.M. and will conclude at about midnigh.
----

Just trowing another idea out there.

Ken,

As I live in the city...I am all for going downtown. I think ending up at Grant Park is ideal (On Columbus street facing Buckingham fountain). I am not certain that the planetarium would be an ideal spot to chill out for awhile. It's not terribly convenient to get too and there are cops who cruise the U-strip often (even though we're pretty well behaved...they'll get sick of it after awhile because we don't look family oriented). However, I don't know of a good route to downtown from Strats. I just know how to get to/fro there from 290 which is not the most exhilirating of rides (even at a slower pace). I always thought taking the North route and heading down LSD was pretty good. And it's a route most of us have done before and are familiar with...so probably a good "pilot" if you will.

provided we can get a group of 25+, everyone from CLSB will get 25% off food.

keep it in mind for a future ride...

perhaps we could all start at Strats, then group-ride up to Luke's for a pit-stop to meet with any northsiders and continue riding from there.

there are some niiiice roads up this way...
