Fridays are supposed to be good....

I guess I'm just venting.... I love my job and used to think I wouldn't leave it for anything. I work with adolescent boys with substance abuse. Most of them are inner-city, caught up in gang-banging and irresponsible parenting, and surviving the streets....some of them are suburban boys who are 'garbage cans' and pop anything they can get their hands on to numb the pain of divorced families and 'nothing to do.'
Recently I find I don't want to be here, and sadly its NOT because of the boys, its because of the STAFF, the MANAGEMENT, etc.
One staff accused of showing porno to the kids on his phone. And I don't mean professional, I mean, "Hey look what I did this weekend."...really!? Could someone actually WANT to do THAT to kids!? Who do I believe!?
Now I have to write statements!?
Another staff decides when she feels like showing up and receives NO consequences.
Another one hides in office all day, rarely showing their face, with their clients asking me WHERE and WHEN they can TALK to someone.
A higher up who does nothing but ask people, "What are we doing today?" and sees this as taking care of his unit....
And lastly the receptionist is supposed to be about customer service...but she happens to be the BIGGEST F****NG B**** I have ever met! And everyone talks about it!
How are these PEOPLE STILL WORKING HERE. SO MANY PEOPLE NEEDS JOBS. FIRE THEM AND MOVE ON. UGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
These poor boys. so many of them, I cant reach out to every single one.
SIIIGHHH sorry. bad friday I guess.

Useless coworkers are the bane of my existence. It's true, they are everywhere.

I'm far from Employee of the Century, but there's nothing worse than a justified/enabled/entitled/empowered useless coworker.

Sounds like you have chosen a tough path, but one that someone needs to do well. It's a good thing you care, since the rest of them don't.

I'd offer advice but, honestly, people don't really change. Miss walks-in-when-she-feels-like-it will likely always do so, no matter what you try to change her behavior.

we should start a permanent thread (similar to drunken thread) where each day we report on "Worst Examples of Americans" in it we can share the stories, incidents, etc re. the bullshit of people we see/find everyday. That would make me feel better. FO SHO.

When I was in tech support, some of the biggest condescending pos biotches to support were the ones with scripture anywhere in their offices or cubicles. The more scripture, the bigger (figuratively) the biotch.

What really makes me feel better is when I see the people who are the good examples. It's so nice, for example, when you lose your luggage and the airline representative helps you out, smiles, and apologizes for the inconvenience. We can't change the bad in the world; we can only change how we choose to respond to it.

there is enough bad in the world.

simply look around. in order to inspire sometimes we have to look towards the good and continue unaffected by whats around us.

its surely not easy, but its why in life those that do get honored cause it is a VERY challenging road to travel.

It's just a job. I understand that you care about your clients that you are trying to help but keep in mind that IT'S STILL JUST A JOB!

Don't take it personal. Do your job and go home or go about your life when you're not at work. I don't believe in a job controlling ones life. I don't live my job. I like my job, I like the people I work with. I take pride in what I do, but when I'm off work I'm off work.

There are a lot of worthless fucking people in this world. People who walk around all day thinking the world owes them something. People that plain just don't care about anything but themselves. Some people don't even care about themselves and that makes it even worse.

I say either deal with it or find a new job. If I were you I wouldn't complain about it though. Dazzle them with your kindness and intelligence and start running the show around there. Suggest modes of improvement. They will follow suit if you go about it the right way.

This.

Although, even though it's just a job, it's difficult wanting to come in to work knowing that you'll be the only one functioning. I experienced this once. I sat down with the fucker and told him to keep his end up and everything will go smooth, and morale with stay up. We haven't had an issue since.

I was thinking more like a YMCA.

The problem lies in the fact that your co workers are there for the paycheck, and not to help these kids. HNIC needs to hire people that like to give empathy and care for people.

Working in East Garfield park I know exactly what you are going through. Bust my ass for an entire year with the kids then watch them go to a shit teacher that just ruins them. You take the small victories, like today I gave my kids free time and they are drawing circles with compasses and constructing geometric shapes.

PLEASE don't give up. You are the one making the difference, even if your useless co-workers are not. Even if you get through to only ONE kid, it will be worth it.

I work in the inner city with some shit jaded nurses who don't give a fuck & should have retired years ago, but if everyone was like that, then what?

We should go out & vent together sometime.
