New Surround Sound System???

Well in the just the few days I've began to consider my options in upgrading and replacing my existing system, I realize I'm ALREADY exhausted in the what feels like BIZZILLION directions I can go with this! Ughhh

Basically it's:

Simple system in a box = 300-600 (My preferred price range)

-or-

Component system = 600 AND UP! (My preferred setup and equip)

I just bought a new 46" LCD HD Samsung 120hz this year along with the new Samsung Blu ray and the X-box so now I'm just getting frusterated cuz my 12 YEAR OLD technics component system is just not doing it! And recently becoming more of a headache then anything due to the channels popping in and out. And the Sound is the missing link now! I've actually just been using the TV speakers as of lately (Which don't sound nearly as bad as I thought they would) but not my style, I like to FEEL my movies

Tom

Mirage Speakers are way way better than bose ... I compare bose to sony, they are well known and over priced for what they deliver.

Hmmm may need to research these a bit... I do to some degree side with you on the whole Bose legacy :Joke: they sound great and all but come on 2 and 3k for a decent surround system outside there 3.2.1 system

I was looking to upgrade and get something with HDMI inputs/outputs and settled on this:

I think it sounds great and its very reasonable. Lower side of your price limit.

Yea thats not bad, I went to Bestbuy the other day just to check some things out, and rite off the bat these were the two that I seemed drawn to for quality and cost...

I REALLY liked the samsung setup, but the sound seemed a BIT more distorted sounding then the Denon floor model. But who knows just yet!

My advice, Get an AVR and speakers from the Harman Kardon Ebay store; it's a factory direct outlet for factory-reburbed units with full warranties. I bought my AVR about 4 years ago for less than half the cost and it's still works and sounds great today.

Yea I've seen the Refurbed stuff, but I just get REAL nervous with that. But I do LOVE harman Kardon! Great Brand.

And the one other big factor that keeps swaying me back to the samsung unit is the Anynet compatiblility that the samsung units have together operating is SYNC is pretty sweet! I love when my blu ray activates the Input automatically on my TV when turned on.

The boom in the box is crap. You'll be happy with it for 2-3 months and after the first date jitters are gone you'll be looking to upgrade again. Bose is like dating a crack whore. All hype no substance. You'll be happier with a good component set and good speakers. I've been where you are and very few budget box systems are worth the money. It's better to piece it together with some good stuff than band-aid over and over again. Bose will use every acoustical trick in the book to fool you. 3 five inch drivers in a seventh order cabinet with an amp of unknown wattage( Accumass module that they can't legally say is a subwoofer????) will never take the place of 500-1000 watts pushing 12s in cabinet tuned to 18 Hz.

The question is, how much do you really want to spend. Once you figure that out, you can narrow down your options.

I AGREE!!!!! NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT!

Until my shit started F'n up, I was rocking a Technics Reciever of PRETTY DECENT wattage output on 2 Yamaha tower speakers both with 2-12's a 3" mid and 1.5 high and then 2 more shelf/surround speakers. It sounded BADASS but EVERYTHING got FUCKED UP! And I have no clue how! Reciever channels POP in and out and the speakers are out If even my speakers were Ok I would just buy a new reciever and surrounds and call it a day, BUUUUUT on the tower speakers BOTH the Mid's and Highs ALL went out. Blah!

I've contemplated wiring in some replacement mid's in highs in the stand ups and then just having to buy the reciever and shelf speakers but I don't know yet???

Quit pussy footing around with the Home Theater In A Box shit. That's for people too lazy to research and shop around, or that really don't need/want a surround sound.

Just get a simple reciever:

OK Onkyo Receiver

And whatever speakers floats your boat, like these guys that are on a killer sale right now:

Speakers

Or find some sort of package thats on sale:

Package Receiver and Speakers

all receivers run somewhat hot. they're amplifiers which produce heat while operating because they're not 100% efficient.

So Here's what I think I'm gonna do... after thinking about it, it is true NO HOME THEATRE SYTEM IN A BOX is gonna do what independent 12" floor speakers and components can!

I need to decide on something 5.1 or 7.1 Find a SOLID reciever BEST suit for what I'm gonna need it for, I want to find a nice SURROUND sound speaker set of 3 to 5 speakers and then I think I'm gonna try to replace the Mid's and Tweet's in my Yamaha tower speakers and BLAMMO!

(Quit a bit of work to piece, price and research everything but I think I'll be much happier with the result. And I REALLY don't want to waist those tower speakers I have, 2-12's per enclosure, and the 12's still SLAM! and the speakers are only 6 years old and barely used)

Yamaha has great recievers and options for the $$ Klipsch are great speakers.

As I told you on FB I have Denon/Boston Acoustics.

If you can before buying find someplace local to listen to the speakers. I know the place by Fox Valley mall carries Klipsch or did years ago. Sorry I can't think of the name but it's right by Hooters.

Everyone has a different ear for listening. Also I'm not sure how much you plan on listening to radio thru the setup. SOME are better setup for home theater then any music so this may also be something to think about IF you plan on jamming some music also

I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin', and hook up with them later!!
