Wow, big news. Although I cannot say that I am very surprised. Buell did have some pretty innovative design ideas but they never seemed to sell bikes. Really too bad.

I never liked the look of Buells but it is sad they aren't making them anymore.

Poor Eric, he has tears in his eyes during that videotaped message. Can't say I blame him.

yeah, i think they got MV about a year ago. I didn't understand why they were buying them when they (HD) were cutting production down about 34% at the time.

about Buell, they didn't have anything going with that line for a while. i know they tried to come up with the 1125 series and the only one that I personally liked was the adventure line

Was never a fan of buells until this year, it seemed like they were finally putting together a bike that could compete, well, actually they DID put together a bike that could compete, and infact it's done very well in AMA sportbike class, really shitty they wont get another season in that class to really perfect that bike.

they are dumping MV as well... just enough time of ownership for their engineers to go through the files and snag some ideas?

Way to go DMG. Getting behind a mfg/product that's leaving the market. Destroyed some relationships and lost credibility over that. And for what?

I always had a love hate relationship with Buell. I loved their design but hated owning one.

Eric is a down to earth guy that would love talking about mods he saw on his bikes.

Very sad day for Erik Buell..... I though he build a brilliant bike from a motor
that was an antique lump of crap. Finally..... the 1125 with Rotax power a
brilliant bike..... somewhat a cheater bike for The SuperSport class but still a
real accomplishment.

Sad day.

Sucks to be DMG...... they got what they deserved...... gave Buell so much
favoritism in SuperSport and Superbike with homologation allowances that they
pissed off all the series regulars...... now Buell folds. Serves them right.

That would be like compairing a chevy cobalt "HD" and a veyron "Mv Agusta". Plus it would be hd's first sportbike, so i would exspect it to sell like crazy or completely tank. I know hd isn't going to do it though.

I'm sure Eric has no worries. He cashed out at the right time when he sold 51% to H-D. He left them holding a bag full of a product that was never going to be a force in the market place anyway. And if the market ever turns around enough to absorb a bike like that, they can always bring it back.

Maybe this will be a liberation for Eric, and he'll find a house that will let him run with his ideas and support him rather then bind him with 1950's technology and thinking.

The 1125 was a Rotax..... completely modern.....and the bike he should have built all along.

He sold his company to them. He used to work there in the '80s. I'm sure he knew what he was getting in to. He did a smart thing at the time.
