fire extinguishers

where do you go to get fire extinguishers recharged.

had about 5 minutes of excitment when the neighbor caught his lawnmower on fire, he said it was leaking gas when he started(retarded i know) soit catches fire and he drags it out on the curb away from anything else and run in to get water to put it out (more retarded, water on a gasoline fire) i see the mower burning and grab an extinguisher and walk over and put the thing out as hes coming back out of the house with a pot filled with water. he runs up as im standing there lookin at it makin sure its out and it relights and before i can blast it again he throws the water at it splashing it on me ( further retardation as it coulda splashed burning gas) I give it another shot and drain the rest of the extinguisher on it to mke sure this time.

now i need to get it refilled

call or stop by your local fire department. I'm pretty sure they know about that stuff.

There is a place in Northlake called Fire Equipment Company. On Lake street, a few blocks west of Wolf. Hillside is the cross street, I think. Very reasonable prices. And local.

Jason,

This is the place I use:

http://www.auroratristate.com/index.html

They are off of I88, not far from the "Premium Outlet Mall"

It's going to cost a bit to recharge your extinguisher, typically $55 to $75 depending on the size. Also, after a certain number of years, it needs to be recertified, which also costs money and may be deemed scrap metal.

Brianne and I used that place for C02 for the aquariums, and filling the fleet of extinguishers we have here. Speaking of which, PM me, maybe I have one for you.

Jason is not a douche nozzle like you though. He just lent his friend a hand(fire extinguisher) no need to ask for repayment...

If I was in Jasons place I wouldn't ask for repayment, but if I was that neighbor I would offer to replace the fire extinguisher used that saved my lawn mower from further damage.

Fire departments are worthless, I would just buy a new one because most recharging places will charge you enough for one.

I love my fire department. They are the best.

VES206 is a firefighter for my subdivision.

I agree, if I were the neighbor, I would pay for the fire extinguisher. Or at least walk out of the house all pissed off and say, "WTF? I'm trying to burn up my lawnmower!".

Not to say that fire departments are worthless in general, just in the fire extinguisher recharging sense. At least when I lived back in Milwaukee and discharged one like a dumbass a few days before our competition and found out in the rules that it had to be that exact fire extinguisher we needed to bring along. Needless to say if you lived in Milwaukee I could help you out with a good recharging place.

You're a hero!! I would have just watched it burn while laughing at the idiot neighbor make a lake of fire. Then I would put it out with my extinguisher.

A good way to find a place to recharge your extinguisher is to look at the tags on the extinguishers at your work. There should be a name if a place who maintains them. Or call your local FD. They should give you the name of the company they use.

I came here to drink some beer and kick some ass. And it looks like we are all out of beer.

I thought I heard a long time ago that you could get them refilled at a fire department station but I have no idea if thats actually true.

So basically I have nothing to contribute to this thread.
