What do you guys think

I want to start doing track days next year and i dont know if i should use my bike or buy one for like 2000 with a salvage title or non and use it stricly on the track.. the way i figure it is if i use my bike a want t get the hotbodies race bodywork thats like 600 so if i find a bike for 2000 which i have seen ebay and craigslist i might be better off buying another bike so if i drop it no big deal idk im puzzled ill take any opinon.. what did u track guys do?

Does anyone know how i could go to a insurance auction around here or anything like that? or simply is anyone selling a decent bike for cheap...

buy a purpose built and already set up track bike that someone is lookin to get rid of for like 4k. cuz u will need more than just bodywork if ur goin to be doin lots of trackdays. the list never ends really.....

but for the first time out i would say to run what u got and see how u like track...

Don't take something you don't wanna wreck to the track. If you don't mind replacing parts in the event of a mishap, get the race skins, if you want something you can wreck on sunday and fix..... get a dedicated track bike.

Ride smart... stupid hurts.

Everyone crashes. Some get back on. Some don't. Some can't...

Godspeed 788!!! We miss you!

Buy law you can't buy anything at an insurance auction while living in the state of illinois unless the bike is more then 11 years old. Private parties can not hold salvage titled motorcycles in the state of illinois. it is limited to licensed rebuilders.

The way around that is have a family member or friend from out of state buy what your looking for.

Buy a track bike off craig's list or WERA/NESBA board. There's plenty to be had, already setup for decent to great prices.

I would never, nor condone, but a darkside to a lot of trackbikes/racebikes is some are ins. scams so they may not be titled or anything, but will be in great condition. Again, I think this is shady and I do believe in karma, so if a deal is TOO good to be true...

Even a decent salvaged bike can be a good project if that's the only option...

Good luck!

unless youve got alot of money to spend i always thought its better to buy a bike thats already built by someone else instead of going the auction route, makes sense financially.
if you dont like something on the ready to go bike, just sell it, trade it, w/e
right now you can get some ready track bikes for only a lil more than some salvage bikes
