I saw it on channel 9, and from reading other news articles about it I think that was around Pulaski and Forty-something, I'm not sure because I don't go there but that's what was in the articles.

42nd Court and Pulaski (Crawford). The "meat" of the article is that there is a proposed ordinance being passed through the City Council that will enable law enforcement to immediately impound vehicles cited for drag racing, etc.

Don't they already have the authority to do this?

It doesn't matter for as many spots as they shut down there will be new ones. It doesn't help when some of the cops themselves are doing the racing also

I think they're broadening the scope, lessening what it will take to have the car impounded. I would bet they're even making so that they can impound spectator's cars.

I don't get it. This has been going on since the friggen '50's. It's not a residential area, they're not doing it down people's blocks. Let them be. I say if people are doing this in remote areas, reducing the risk of running into a bus carrying a little league team, than leave them alone. If they're doing it down main streets though, bust them hard.

I disagree. There are plenty of dragstrips around. The fact is, there IS a residential neighborhood near enough to wherever they were running, that the neighbors got pissed. This crap doesn't belong on public streets.

and a decent one, GLD doesn't count (still a good 45 minutes) everything about that place sucks!

After the long drive paying $25 bucks for a dozen runs isn't my thing either.

I bet you what happend was one of Dailey's friends was pissed and bitc*ced at him becasue his kid lost a very expensive car racing.

One potential problem with drag strips is gamblling. For the racers that are good at this they usually race for large sums of cash and/or pink slips. Me not being a regular to drag stips I dont know if this goes on.

Second and probably the biggest broblem is that a lot of the time they race for longer then a 1/4 mile. Testing thier HP and torque that way, kind of like a 0-100-0. I dont know of a drag stip that long in IL that still has space to slow down at the end.

I'm not trying to take sides but I'm trying to point out the the solution isn't as simple as go to the drag strip.

KB....there are NO residential around there..that is why people run their cars there....

the real dragstrip used to be Archer Ave...My dad and I built countless cars that we used to run there...the stoplight to stoplight commandoes those were tha days...if you ask me, its a damn shame that daley and his gestapo chased all the cruisin and shit out of that area...kept us out of trouble! what would you rather have...some kids cruisin and racin stoplight to stoplight, or chase the kids out, they find other much more destructive shit to do other than cruise their cars on fri and sat night? i remember a day not so long ago when all the small strip mall parking lots from central to harlem were loaded with old cars, motorcycles, new cars, etc...everyone brought their toys out n had a good time..now you gotta go seek out places like those warehouses on 42nd street, doty rd (which i heard just got majorly fucked) and some spots id rather not put up here, so some asshole police dont come scouting new spots to screw up...

Whatsign, youre right....one of Daleys chump ass friends probably got schooled and this is the way they get back....who the hell knows....i know this..you would have to go out of your way to find the guys racin on 42nd st lol...

SORRY for the lengthy post, but its a major pet peeve of mine...I dont wanna hear the BS of the poor residents, the kids are killin themselves, etc....if you wanna see poor residents...take a ride around the Lake and Pulaski neighborhood and take a look at all the runners on every corner sellin crack...now THAT is a problem worthy of having the police look into, but instead, i ALWAYS see the police sittin in their car readin the fuckin paper or catchin up on some beauty sleep...what a pile of shit...

Yeah, I used to run my Camaro down in 42nd and pulaski bout 2 years ago. It was good times. It isn't really near a residential area, But once and a while when stuff got broken up most cars would head torwads crispy creme parking lot. Which happens to be near a residential area. R1_Pilot: Yeah you're right! I heard Archer used to be bad ass! BUt they passed a "No Cruising" law (even got signs up for it) from Archer and kostner all the way to ARcher and Harlem I think. The meat of that law states that if they see your car passing back and forth like 3 times within a time period they can peg you for "cruising." GixxerNick: I still got a lot of friends that go to Doty Rd. I don't think that place will ever go out, heheheh. Which stunter spot you talking about, The one that went to was still up and good. Good roads and away from people, PM me and I'll tell you which one it is, see if we are thinking about the same one. All in all I think my tax dollars would be better spent solving murders, cleaning up trouble neighborhods where I have a founded knowledge that I may be shot. NOT, thrown into terrifying some poor kid who saves up every little penny of his measly check to make his car look nice and a little fast so that he can take it to a spot and show it off. I was never like this but I knew Alot of people that went there (and still do) for the pure joy of it.

Forget street racing.. Clean up Englewood.

There is a Burger King at 41st or so and Pulaski..... everytime I pass it, there are alot of bikes in there. Plus Archer has alot of cruising going on, there are even NO CRUSING signs posted up and down it. It is mainly alot of wife beater shirts, shorts, sandals, glasses on their heads as they drive. Looks like the Polish Mafia from what I see . Not that there is anything wrong with the Polish Mafia

No good drag racing has been done on Doty or the Pulaski spot in a long time. (I lived at 56th & Harlem) I've gone to these areas for years and as of a few weeks ago I was at 42nd and Doty...nothing but junks running in these spots(kids) its been this way the whole summer. It's not like it was a few years back. Its been worthless the last 5 times I went out there. I'm looking at new places now where people actually race for $$ and they have real cars to run. No 2.2l riced out hondas - All out of the Chicago city limits. I won't mention any streets.

I was just talking to someone that said they were at doty (pretty sure it was doty) and cops blocked both ends and gave everyone parking tickets.... he said it completely sucked, not only did he get a parking ticket .. he had to wait an hour to get it
sheesh....

I like that there is street racing, its been going on forever.
It was around the whole time I was growing up (OK, assuming I've ever actually grown up)
Just so that it is kept away from the general population....
I dont think blocked off frontage roads at 3am is a big deal.
Heck I think they should tear down Miegs airport and turn it into a drag strip.. heck Dailey had the heavy equipment there already.

You got 12 runs at GLD? I find that hard to believe. My last three trips were an average of 3 runs for a full day. And you're right, everything about that place sucks, especially the M*F tech asshole that hates bikes...
