Android, open source = easy pirating

So this is interesting. If you don't know, Android Apps don't have to be bought and installed from the marketplace. If you get the install files online from your computer you can send them to your phone and install them.

Well, look what some sites are doing. they have created a business model wehre they buy and download every single app. tTen, they charge users a monthly fee for access to these apps. They have basically created a pirate bay for android.

Google has been made aware of this, but they haven't been shut down.

http://androidplayground.net/web/

Note:
I don't know if this breaks any terms or agreements, but i assume it does.
Also buying like this you don't know what "extra" code has been put into your downloads.

I have a feeling this will end bad for that site.

Software nerds and the such aren't bad people, until you piss them off. They probably aren't very happy about people taking money from them like this and I'm guessing most know how to fuck shit up for the site in question.

But it's hard to/impossible to find out where the torrent came from vs an actual website.

Very true. Unfortunatly for them, for every site they take down, there will be more to replace em faster then they can find them all.

As long as they have a disclaimer saying they are not selling the apps themselves, but instead access to get them under one roof... or you are paying for their bundling, yadda yadda... it's like charging money for Linux.. but you're not buying Linux, you are buying it packaged up in that unique way.

Everyone Exaggerates

So I got blocked from there site. Got an email just now...

Hi Ryan,

You have been blocked for distribution of our apps across forums.
I know it sounds crazy being who we are but we do not take that lightly.

If you would like your account back it may take some work. You seem to
think apps we carry are free on the marketplace also, which is not true.
Every app we have costs money in the marketplace.

Have a good one!
