That is damn cheap. I think the microcontroller used in the microcontroller course at my school costs like $45-$60 with the PC interface board.

<- ME also, but these hobby microcontrollers are really powerful and easy to use. I'm hoping to get into robotics and this is a pretty good way to start, IMO.

What kind of robotics? Lots of people use the Arduino ($75). We just got a couple small mobile robots in our lab and we are going to be using the Arduino to control them.
