With how long this rumor has been floating around, I wouldn't put much faith in it, especially with a statement like this:

From all the chatter out there I would place serious bets on this one. Rumors had more to do with this Fall. I know Verizon wanted its 4G network in place. AT&T knew this was coming which is why they allowed anyone with a current iPhone to upgrade, even if you had your handset for a couple of months.

The first month in 2011 probably has something to do with contracts but I'm speculating.

I don't believe it until there's an official announcement from apple or verizon. the rumors have been going on since day 1 of the iphone and every time they've been denied.

I've got the backbone network they need just sitting here waiting for them, or maybe verizon will lease it first

and I hope AT&T loses a ton of customers to Verizon. They need the relief. It's probably the only thing that will help them bridge their network issues.

Apple has no reason to confirm as this could only hurt sales of existing iPhones. They probably requested Verizon hold off as well. I bet they confirm a couple months down the road.

this is good no matter which side you are on - split the load up some

it also give AT&T a kick in the ass to upgrade their network.

Not sure how many customers they are going to lose right away - they were nice enough to allow early upgrades on the iphone 4... with a 2 year contract

Makes sense since at&t jacked up their ETF fee. But like someone said earlier, this has been speculated numerous times before.

It's almost for sure going to eventually happen - it's when that nobody can figure out.

Can At&T really match what Apple would make in sales from a Verizon iPhone? I think Apple is ready for a try on another network.

I think the wait has been building a cdma version of the iPhone that is comparable to the AT&T version. I don't think it's a coincidence that they will start selling it at the beginning of a new year. I'm not an expert in the contract between partners but I'm sure there is stages of cost to Apple of when they could release it to another carrier.

A funny move would be Apple releasing the original iPhone on Verizon's network..lol. We have it easy in the suburbs regarding reception complaints. I have terrible reception in the city but I can also attribute that to sporting events with a large amount of people in a confined area. Data service is Vegas is horrible not to mention those in San Fran and New York that can barely use their phones. I would not have an iPhone if I lived in one of those three places.

My 2 things are this. What's the $ with verison, and is there a bandwidth limit? If the price is cheaper then AT&T network and no bandwidth decrease, then yea, I would switch. I'm hardly in the city, so I'm not worried about that. AT&T needs ro lower their fucking prices.

...plus my gf was with me saying "omg slow down, slow down" and I was thinking "Lose annoying squalk box in passenger seat, afford more mods and have less weight in the car and on the back of the bike"...so i dumped her and I'm single again as usual...HERE KITTY KITTY!!!

I don't understand why people think there is going to be a CDMA version of the iPhone. You've all seen Apple take a stand on what it considers outdated tech i e Flash. Verizon will get the iPhone when they have a GSM network. Not only that Apple has not been interested in doing business with Verizon because they want a big cut of the device sales. Apple said no.

Verizon will have a full LTE network tested and running at best 4th quarter 2011. Why so long you ask, it's simple they don't need a network that doesn't have device to put on it. the iPhone is fantastic and all but they want more people then that on the brand new network. Device makers aren't in a hurry so Verizon doesn't need to shell out extra money to get thier network rolling.

I have heard that a lot... and I don't see why people would think that.
The reasons they are talking about building it in a different factory are more than likely load or contract based.
As far as the argument of designing it to be CDMA vs GSM - really what's their to do?
They can design, test, prep, disguise, leak, demo, promo yadda yadda yadda a new phone every year. but many people seem to think the process of changing the radio out in the phone is a big deal.. Admittedly for one of us it probably would be, but what is it to apple? a couple million in fab changes? a million in design and testing?

besides it's not like Apple really puts function before form when it comes to actually using the iphone as a phone rather than a toy.. right?
I'm somewhat ok with that.. I hate talking on the phone anymore, it's like having a universal excuse to have to go.. nobody can ever hear you
