Running Vista 32 on a 64-bit processor

So my buddy took it upon himself to update my home PC, after completing the updates he comes upstairs to join me and informs me that I have been accidentally running Vista 64 and that he corrected it. I then realize that having him work on my PC was a bad idea as I have a 64 bit processor and that running Vista 64 was exactly how the computer was designed to run.

Long story short now this PC is all sorts of fucked. I can't right click on anything, it's slow as nuts, nothing works right, etc. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to fix it though, when I go to update the Windows software, it will only let me update to the 32-bit version.

Help me geek squad, what do I do here?

It's not the PC's fault, it's my buddy who didn't bother to ask what processor I was running.

you can run a 32bit os on a 64bit chip, but not vice versa. The main difference between the versions is memory support. Not sure about all your other problems though.

Vista 32 will run on a 64 bit processor, but vitsa 64 will not run on a 32 bit processor.

Sounds more like you have a bunch of hardware not quite configured properly with the right drivers etc. If you have a copy of Vista 64 to re-install (recovery discs?) you might as well go back to it.

Without direct access to the machine - probably a full OS reinstall just to be safe. Especially given how shitty Vista is, you're better off just jumping up to Win 7-64.

Right, it runs, but definitely not well. It was about 6 months old when he updated it, it should not be running like this. I'm probably gonna have to do a complete wipe.

Your problems are not related to having the 32bit version of the OS, that's all I'm saying.

No, it has been fucked for 6 months, I'm just never home to use this computer, now that I am and can't get any streaming porn on my badass 24" widescreen monitor, I'm pissed.

You're doing it all wrong.

Streaming porn has shitty quality for a 24" screen.
Get the new 1080p mkv stuff.

Maybe he picked up the Mormon virus that prevents any kind of porn from reaching the computer.

drink a 6pack of your favorite beer...no make that a full 24 can case and then take a long good piss into the gas tank of your buddy's car. this won't fix your problem but at least he'll share the pain of something not running well.

good luck

Wipe and re-install. Your buddy doesn't know what he is doing and who knows what else he screwed up.
