BB Torch

Anyone play with this yet?
I'm still in camp that doesn't want to let go of BB, but I'm pretty much done with my Curve. Just curious how much the Torch sucks or if, surprisingly, it's any good.

AT&T service sucks when I come back up to Chicago....but it's decent down here and I get a hefty discount through my company, so I'm sticking. I'm just not ready to go iPhone. I like my BB too much.....for some reason...even though it blows.

Allegedly they've already released an OS update that addresses it: 6.0.141.
Dunno which OS version they tested.

The Torch makes me wish I'd made do with my cracked iphone 3G for just a few more months.

At least I'll be getting OS 6 for my 9700 relatively soon. I hope.

Meh. I'm no cell phone expert, but after (1) owning a freeze-happy (2+ times daily) Curve and (2) reading that review, I'd say the freeze issue is deepyly rooted in the BB design and hardware and can't be fixed by an OS upgrade alone.

Can't be the hardware, at least not all hardware. Mine has never frozen. Better than my iPhone in that regard.

I have the 9700, it never freezes, Diane has one too, we love them. I had an ancient Pearl, I would reboot it once a month regardless, it froze up once. The 9700 has yet to freeze up, I love the wifi. We are with T-Mobile, been very happy with their service. Now Diane's oldest has iPhone and AT&T, lives in LA and does nothing but complain about the service, same complaints when he lived in Evanston. I have been think iPad because it would be awesome as a glass cockpit in the plane, they have great apps for General Aviation.

I kept BBs for the last few years, but decided to recently make the jump to the Sprint Epic, and I love it. It has been like 2 days and I am already used to the touch screen, so I didn't need to keep a keyboard lol. The speed of this thing is insane. 4G is faster than my home Cable internet browsing speeds .

BB Torch

I was playing with a friends torch the other night and I have to admit it was kickass. By far better than any BB I've ever had. Only complaint he has so far is that the battery life sucks. Even with the Bluetooth and wifi turned off it won't last a day with "normal" use.

Its still a BB though and BB's suck ass.

I have a curve 8330 and it never freezes, sounds like someone has bad hardware or software on their unit.

Yep - Carry one for work that is on 24x7 and have had it for 2 Years +, dropped it many times - Played Office Hockey with it, Zero Issues

I really want an android based phone to play around with but I have to admit this old curve is like a tank, great battery life, awesome for corporate email, and takes a BEATING.

Yep - My IT Guys have been on me for 4 mos to swap it out and I have zero reason to do so - Batt gets me thru an 18 hour day of constant use, even after 2 + years - Speaker Phone ROCKS - BES is the best for Corp Email and calendar - To quote Rolo from Sanford and Son......"SOLID"

I have one of those curve cradle chargers for mine too, dump it into that when I get into the office each day. Could not be easier, and for $5 it is the best cell accessory I ever bought.

IN all honesty, dollar for dollar, prob the best all around phone I have ever carried and I have carried more than I can even remember

Not sure it would be a choice for personal use but for work, ACE of BASE type shit man!!!!

I love that my curve is easy to use. I am also one of "those people" who loves getting all my messages (5 email accounts, SMS, MMS) in one inbox. Video and picture quality are good, but I don't need them to be any better so no complaints there. It is not even a 3g phone on AT&T and the browser is (besides being clunky) slow as all get out. Sometimes I have to remind myself I'm not on dial-up at Illini Tower.

I also love that I have chunked my phone clear across a hard floor and it still works. I got the sad face white screen of death one and it was easy to self help and fix. I hook it right up to a USB on my desk at work every day and it auto syncs (I am not on a BES).

The other thing I LOVE about it is the battery life. With normal use (no browsing) I can go 3-4 DAYS without charging. It's heaven. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've had to say "my phone was dead; sorry I msised your call" in the OVER 2 years I've had this thing.

I just want a better, faster browser. And, my unit (heh heh) freezes up all the time, so I'd like to ditch it for a quicker unit (heh heh).

on the 9700, Bolt and Opera Mini are decent browsers w/ Indy's 3G, (not perfect though) but I'm sure the webkit browser in OS 6 will be better.

Really the only weak point for me w/ BB. My primary use for my phone is as a phone (weird, I know) and messaging device, so the internet browsing experience isn't hugely important to me.
