.MTS File??

Is there any free software out there that will play a .mts file?
This is the format that a new sony handy cam is saving the file as.

That's overkill for what he needs. He just wants playback for now. Running a lengthy, and possibly quality affecting, conversion is overkill.

If you want to convert that MTS pretty easy in the future, you can use Handbrake.

The Sony Software (that came with our handycam) only outputs WMV or MPEG2 i believe.

Can you upload MTS HD to youtube?

handbrake is a very powerful tool, and a little outside Mike's comfort zone. The built in presets are pretty decent but you really need to know what your goals are before you fiddle with it.

I don't know Mike, so your suggestion is probably dead on. If you make sure you click nothing else and leave the presets for each file type alone you are generally ok.

I had bought some software, I think it was Creative Video Creator 10 or something from costco not long ago, and it was like $60 there. Super good bang for your buck. Nothing like an Adobe product, It was simple and easy to use, yet had great features and powerful enough to use. I will find what it was when i get around home and post it.
