Windows 7 Monitor resolution

So, my wife managed to do some weird shit and changed the resolution to one not supported by the monitor.

I tried booting in safe mode, and the default resolution there works and I can see the screen. I can change it, but the settings never carry over.

If I reboot in normal mode, the monitor doesn't work.

How can I change the resolution a) without seeing the screen, or b) within safe mode and have the setting "stick" when I reboot in normal mode?

couldn't you just remove the video card from device manager in safe mode. then when booted into normal mode it will refind and install the correct device and set the resolution to a supported one.

Thanks!
That should work. I'll keep that in mind next time she fucks it up.

I got it fixed using system restore.

I'm surprised windows let her change it to an unsupported resolution. Typically those modes are hidden unless you specify otherwise. Even then after the change it asks you if you want to keep the changes and if you don't answer(which you wouldn't if you couldn't see the screen) it would revert. She must have hit the enter key.

She did it hitting some function key combo trying to minimize a window, then when the screen went black, she rebooted before it could revert itself.

If you have Premium or Ulitmate, you can use the Group Policy Editor to prevent screen resolution changes. Run gpedit.msc
