Question about hotspot usage

Can someone give me some insite?
I have heard that the phone is inoperable during hot spot usage. Can either the droid X (verizon) or the evo (sprint), receive phone calls while the hotspot is feeding other devices?

will calls go strasight to voicemail? or does the hotspot cut out and the phone ring. Also is there an app for modifying the response.

I need to know this for my company as we are looking to make some changes on phones for the field. Help me out here so I don't look like an idiot (more than I already do) when I go into this meeting.

also what are the extra charges monthly associated with the hotspot over the existing data plan.

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

I'll be happy to test this out for you tonight, if no one else can answer it ahead of time.

No issue if you are on 4G.

I'm 90% sure it doesn't work on VZW since CDMA can only do data or voice. I can test it on my DX but I don't have the verizon tethering I am rooted and have Barnacle.

CDMA only does voice OR data, but if he's driving the mobile hotspot off of the wifi, that's a distinct different hardware radio, not the CDMA radio.

I understand that but the wifi tether uses wifi to connect the device (laptop etc) to the phone then the phone uses the 3g cdma network from there.

I just confirmed it. When wireless tether is active to my DX and I get a phone call pings drop as data is over taken by voice. Then when I ended the call pings picked right back up.

So the answer to the question as I see it would be that you can get phone calls on the DX but during that time you would loose internet connectivity to tethered devices.

When I had my HTC Espresso on T-mobile, I could talk and use wifi tether at the same time. FWIW.
