looking at android tablets

Our 9 year old loves to play games on Dave's Iphone. I am thinking about getting her a tablet for Christmas. I'm finding some 8 in tablets for about $100. Anything I need to be looking for in particular? She will use it for games, music and I would like a camera on it.

Here are some of the ones I found.

Reddit has an interesting comparison spreadsheet up on Google Docs, that outlines a ton of data points on the different tablets out there.

Hopefully that'll give you some additional pieces of information.

I did a google search, but I'm not current on these tablets at all. I've seen the iPad, and that's about it.

I wouldn't buy anything other than the Samsung Tab and iPad right now. There's some real crappy knock off tablets that barely work out on the market, priced in the $100 range. In order to get games for a Tablet, it has to have an app store, which Apple has the best.

The reviews I have seen on the cheap tablets is there is barely any apps, no designer wants to support them, so the top apps are porn related.

If you want something you can control (parental lock outs) and has good child related apps, get the iPad. I haven't used the Galaxy Tab yet, but it might be a good runner up.

That's the thing, she has a netbook and loves it. I'm looking for something for her to play games on, like she does on Dave's iPhone. I don't want to spend a fortune, since she is also getting a flat screen for her room.

IMO- If you can't afford an ipad I'd go with an iPod touch. The touch will give you pretty much everything you want but is more portable and has the iPod. Seems like a better option for a 9 year old since she wont use a tablet to its full advantage. You can get used ones for ~ $100.

If you really want it to have a camera then I think it sounds like you need to save your nickles and dimes and get the Galaxy Tab. Smaller than the iPad but has front and rear cameras.

I thought we were operating under the assumption that those are all dog shit.

Some of those only have a battery life of 2 hours. One of the Galaxy Tabs is out on Tmobile for $400, give it a few months. I bought my Galaxy S phone right when it came out. A couple months later it was buy one get one free. Tmobile. There are rumors of them coming down to around $200, probably when they release the 2nd gen with the Super Amoled screens.

yes it is $50 for the desire vs $100 for the galaxy. The slightly larger AMOLED or w/e isn't worth 50 for me. The desire is sexsy.
