50 Greatest Science-Fiction Movies of All Time

MSN lists their top 50 sci fi greats. Click the little next button to procede:

Solaris the remake looked dry and slow from the previews when it came out so I didn't pay attention to it, but it made the list at #32. The original came in at #19. Anyone see it? Was it good?

One of my favs not on the list is Contact.

All in all it's a good list. Which of your favs are missing?

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

if contact was a person I would punch it in the face.

that movie sucked balls. I am going to build up 2 hours of movie goers attention, so jodie foster can go in the end to see her FATHER. No freaking aliens, just her Father.

Fucking lame.

id rather see will smith punch an alien in the face while saying, "welcome to earth!"

Yes, I am not surprised it didn't make the list. But something about it keeps me watching. Going down wormholes are all sorts of kick ass, so any movie that does that deserves recognition. And lets face it what other sci fi movie takes you where Contact went?

Interesting list. Pretty solid choices for the most part.

But how in the fuck, did Starship Troopers not only BEAT Star Wars & Star Trek: Wrath of Kahn, but make it into the top 20 (#16). That movie was a piece of steaming shit compared to the book! Argh!!!

I know one that should be on the list - Donnie Darko.

starship troopers is an often misunderstood film. It is very well done for what it was trying to do.

Yeah, I'm with you on the order. Not sure how T2 beat T1 and why the remake of WoW is in there.

Well I was tainted by the book, which is drastically different than the film. The book is far more philosophical, dark, and powerful. The movie was just a bunch of blood, guts, with a small helping of titties.

Yeah but there is the issue of budget. What was the budget for T1 vs. T2? $6.5 mil vs. $90 mil. T1 storyline is fantastic. Also, the storyline of T2 is just an extension of T1. Normalizing things T1 > T2.

I apparently need to get caught up on my B&W Sci-Fi in order to appreciate that list.

Also, I notice many people here are focused on the entertainment value of a movie, where lists like this probably biased towards the message, or the new (film) frontiers these movies dive into.

I've always loved Starship Troopers, and I wish they made sequels.

Tron was Disney's first non musical. It is regarded as a bad movie. One quote said something along the lines of Disney doesn't know what to do when people aren't singing. However it does have a huge cult following. Cult following, though I beg to differ, does not make it a sci fi great. I do agree though that it should be on the list, but I'm not surprised it isn't.

I couldn't get through the whole list without the site giving an error. However I'd be very disappointed if The 5th Element isn't on there.
