Yeah, netbooks cost nothing and do virtually the same. Good point. Need the ratio to remain even.

Macs cost more, so they do ______.

And for me, I think paying over $500 for a laptop is pointless. A 13-15" screen is too small to do any real sort of work, so why pay all that money for something I'm just going to use to browse the internet and maybe do a quick spreadsheet?

Really? I used to have a 17" Mac laptop, I got a 15" and two for my daughters. I use mine for work every day all day and LOVE it. Our CEO also switched to a MacBook Pro 15".

My daughter has a 13" MacBook and LOVES it as well.

Of course, I cheat, as I have 23" 1080p HD monitors at work and home that plug into my Mac. And some folks have either TWO 23" monitors attached or the have the 30" monitor attached.

Penny wise, pound foolish. You really do get what you pay for.

Speaking of that, I have a stack of slightly USED PC laptops I need to sell. True story.

Don't get me wrong, I completely agree with what you are saying, but...

...for my personal use (not work), it would be completely pointless to drop that kind of coin. I don't use my netbook for anything other than browsing the internet and maybe doing a quick spreadsheet. If I'm going to do anything more detail oriented (Pro/e, Photoshop, etc) a larger screen, actually, dual larger screens like I have at work and like the ones you have are much more appropriate and at that point, I'd rather buy a desk top and a cheap netbook. I don't do any PC gaming or any hardcore computing, so top of the line isn't necessary for me.

Makes perfect sense to me. I prefer to buy the laptop I use at work as it makes me far more productive. They'll provide a PC for me, or a laptop. I choose to buy my own so that work and personal are all on one device that integrates to everything else.

I leave, everything goes with me.

Different strokes for different folks. I don't like having my personal stuff on my work computer.

If you OWN your work computer it is a different story. I don't put my personal stuff on something that someone else owns either.

True, but I'd still rather not put myself in the situation where my IT department can see my personal stuff. I'd still be using their network, their software, their internet connection, etc. It's a can of worms I'd rather not open.

That would be nice. Not an option with us though. we HAVE to use our work issued laptops for work. something to do with government security clearance and that sarbanes oakly or whatever it is
