Steve, give me a call when you are back. I assume you are at the Paris Cartes Show?

I work with the company providing the Wallet for the ISIS project, for AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile.

F*ck, I hate Samsung phones. Will have to wait and see how it is. Also this "It comes pre-installed with the best of Google apps and enabled with new and popular features" sounds like it will come loaded with crap and I would have to root it to get rid of it. I think I will wait until HTC releases a phone I like and keep my Nexus One for a while longer.

Don't worry about a buch of useless programs. it will come with stuff preloaded like maps, market, places, latitute, a NFC tag reading app. But it's pretty minimal. Way less than any other android phone.

I still would advice rooting to do all the normal cool stuff they don't usually let you do.

I normally don't love samsung phones either, but this one is bad ass. I think they have done a great job with the galaxy S lineup and this is the icing on the cake.

But keep in mind, Google just does this phone as a reference design to push handset manufacturers in a new direcetion (ie adding NFC). There will be many other brands and models built on gingerbread. Go buy whatever you want.

I highly recommend getting a phone with NFC in it....why you might ask....well it has the potential to enable a lot of new features.
-Tag reading (no more barcodes)
-Peer 2 peer sharing contact info, files, etc between phones.
-Pairing, no more buetooth codes, just tap to pair
-Secure identy in phone, just tap your phone to devices to login or open things (computers, locks, etc)
-Card emulation, NFC combined with a secure element allows you to keep credit cards, loyalty cards, coupons, IDs on your phone.

and there is more.
