It's not Excel but it's likety quick and does what you need:

Export the column to a text file and do this on a unix/linux box (or a mac)

Prompt> cat FILE.csv | sort | uniq -c | sort -rn >newfile.csv

The contents of the new file will look like this though:

2 Yellow
1 Yeller
1 Rede
1 Red
1 Read
1 Greay
1 Graey

(and it will take about 2 seconds to run)

Everyone Exaggerates

We're being taken for a ride... agaaaaaaain.....

go to the sheet, select all data, sort by name or whatever identifier. on the menu go to data, subtotal. on the gui select at each change of the name, use function Count. if you have issues, pm with your number, I am here for another 20 minutes. It really is quite simple so you should not have any issues except maybe your computer freezing b/c of the large data pool.
