Blackberry vs. Droid ???

I'm getting ready to get a new phone, but I'm torn between my options. Has anyone switched from a Blackberry to a Droid, or vice versa? Pro's and Con's?

I currently have a Blackberry Curve 8330, and don't have any issues with it other than the fact I cannot save e-mail attachments like spreadsheets or PDF's. I have to keep the original e-mail in my inbox forever. I also heavily use BB's Password Keeper since between work and the military, I have about 40 separate user names/passwords.

I looked at the Droid-X and it seems like it would work, but doesn't have a password keeper. Maybe there's an app that does it, but I don't want my data on a server somewhere. I could use an encrypted spreadsheet, but I need to have the premium Excel app to use the password protection function.

The Verizon store said that RIM is coming out with a BB Storm-3 this year which looks pretty nice and has good specs compared to the Droid.

The one major issue I have is NOT having a physical keyboard. Me and touchscreen QWERTY key pads don't get along very well. If the Storm-3 has a slide out keyboard, then I'm set.

Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks

the keyboard takes a while (for me) to get used to. i still miss a real keyboard.

I have both for right now. I kept my bb for work when I went to the Droid X. Has the S3 been talked about again. Last I saw (months back) they were squashing it on the RIM end. I haven't really kept on top of it lately.

There are plenty of password keeper applications out there for android devices. As for the keyboard swype is my new favorite keyboard. It takes a little getting used to but it is pretty slick once you get used to it.

For work being that we have a BES I could not live without my BB device. For personal use my DX is amazing.

I didn't like the Droid at all and just switched from the Samsung something or other (not the top end model) to a Blackberry and am glad I did.

I don't really use all the bells and whistles related to the internet and the app world, really I just want a phone that works well as a damn phone and I think the Blackberry does a better job of that.

...and I did have a droid with an actual keyboard.

I had a blackberry tour 9630, switched to a Samsung Epic 4G that uses android operating system. I love it, it takes some getting used to with the virtual keyboard, but swyping is pretty cool when you get used to it. You can text quicker than thumbing it out on a blackberry, just in case this thing has a full keyboard that can slide out when I get frustrated with the virtual keyboard. The new Evo has a keyboard as well if you are a blackberry fan unwilling to ditch the keyboard.

Do to my job I have to support all three major platforms. Personally I have been carrying Blackberry's for years. If they had a weak spot it was their browser. Well thanks to all the competition out there RIM finally gave us a nice browser that pretty much does everything Droid and iphone can do. Right now I have the Torch. Nice screen, battery life, multimedia functions that match iphone and droid. (At least the ones that matter to most) Nobody does email and texting, central administration (IT Standpoint), better then BB. If you put running apps over the core features of a smart phone then get a Droid or iphone. Make sure your IT guys are running MS Exchange and have it configured so else you are going back to the 80's with POP or IMAP. Th torch has three input interfaces; optical track sensor, keyboard and touch screen. For all but a few functions I hate touch screens. The BB torch has the main useful ones like the flick and pinch zoom. battery life is DAYS, try that with an EVO. Most EVO users I have seen get 4-6 hours max and thats light useage. 1ghz processor and huge screen what did they expect

I have to admit I am jaded about the "App" revolution. I believe it a bunch of needless crap and unsecured code that is running on devices that connect to corporate networks. If that crap does not help me close business, do my job better or make my life less complicated I dont want it. Their is little control over the quality of the code and information collected. Not to mention Google is DATA COLLECTIONS company and their CEO is downright creepy and says crazy creppy S#$! on a monthly basis. That is a whole post in itself. Funny that Apple is getting sued for privacy issues on the iphone right now. It should be Google

you had the samsung acclaim which i had for a month and it sucked, dropped calls, buggy, etc, then I went to the HTC desire and now I have the Samsung Galaxy S. The Desire was the fastest but so far I like the galaxy the best. I wish it could hook into my BESx server and for that reason if RIM came out with a droid crossover my carrier would use I'd switch in an instant. As it is I like that work has to gmail me or I have to log into OWA if I want them to bother me.

Yeah the Acclaim sucked ass. That said, the whole concept of the Droid is based more on internet/apps than phone/texts. That's where it got me the most. It was hard to use the thing as a damn phone!

Angry Birds.

that right there makes it worth having a droid. always getting beeps and dings when i get new GIM, YIM, gmail, yahoomail, my stock quotes, and the weather, pandora and youtube at my finger tips is nice too.

other than that, yeah droids really suck.

oh and gps and navigation, I can say pizza hut and it'll tell me where the nearest couple are and then give me turn by turn directions on how to get there. or if i need a phone number or address I can just google it while i'm on the road.

the battery doesn't last the longest though.

I was going to switch off of BB, as I was sick of my curve, but I wanted the keyboard. Also have no real use for apps, and honestly was a bit loathe to learn to navigate a new phone. I got the torch. It's not perfect, but I do like it a lot compared to the curve. I wouldn't pay over $100 for it though, IMO.

Battery life rocks, that is true.

I just got that new(ish) BB Style, the flip phone. It was free and holy crap is it sweet to have a flip phone again ()...one that has all the modern phone bells and whistles. No screen lock or pocket dialing worries.

Battery life is meh on it though. Definitely seems like a browser left open was draining it big time, it's better now but not great.

actually it wasn't spelled that way, but it was pronounced ate-a-lot. And his first name was Melton; but he went by Doug--his middle name. No shit.
Just a funny aside to the story of being ass dialed by a cheating makeout session.

He wasn't really plump. Soft in the middle, but not fat. Total ginger, though.
