iPhone 4 to tv questions

I have done some research on connecting an iPhone 4 to my tv. Apple sells a universal dock, and either component or a/v cables, totalling around $100. Or, I could buy this http://mobile.buy.com/ibuy/ProductDe...&sku=216995584 and it looks to do the same thing.

1) I understand that component will give better picture quality than a/v, but is the link I posted all I would need?

2) Anyone here have a setup they like for this?

I bought the composite cables from apple a few years ago, looks to be the same thing. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC...co=MTY3ODQ5OTY
Haven't used them with iPhone 4 (I have Apple TV at home so no need) but it worked fine for my iPhone 3G. Used it at the GP in Indy two years ago, forgot them last year.

Component I'm sure are better but I figure composite is more readily available on hotel TVs.

If its for your home TV, I would get the Apple TV for $100. Airplay is really a nice feature. Now that I have it.... can't believe I lived without it.

So with Apple TV, I can surf the web on it, watch movies on it, and also store movies on it? Is there a monthly charge for it? What's the deal, does it come with a keyboard or something? I'm new to Apple tv.

With the ATV2 you can watch movies off your home computer, Netflix, iTunes, and YouTube. As well as stream audio and video from your iPhone or iPad. Can't really browse the Internet though.

It has no onboard storage, except what's needed to stream movies. You rent from Netflix and iTunes, or you use your home computer on the network for the storage part of it.

No monthly fee.

Yeah, but I can sit in my comfy chair and send video after video to the TV. Or swipe through a picture album for my relatives, without standing next to the TV or having a 10ft cord running across the floor.

The HDMI out is great when you drop over to a friends house, and go "Hey, watch this". But in your own home, sorry, the Airplay option is just so much better.

Docks and cables are soon to be a thing of the past.

There is a guy on CL selling an older Apple TV. It has a 40g HD. He also claims that there are hacks for it. He is selling it for $100. Worth it? Should I go new? I know it's the same price as a new one, this guy is claiming the old ones are sought after.

No.... Go new for $100.

If you have any other computer on your network that can run iTunes, you have all the storage you need. I don't know if the older ATV can even run AirPlay.

There are hacks for the new ones now as well. XBMC is the popular one.
