Old server for sale?

This is sort of a wtb thread as well as a question.

Here's the game plan.

Instead of doing external hard drives and losing my macbook to downloading and transfering movies/tv n whatnot to those hard drives (since wireless chokes at 1.5mbps. I want to setup a home server machine with 2 2 tb hard drives.

As much as i hate windows it does make sense. Remote desktop to keep files downloading and moving. Yet solid storage and plenty of room to expand and backup at lightning speed.

So any computer geeks, i was debating this one

but what do you think?

and it will be real overkill for what he wants to do. WHS is a good route, get it now before they drop the drive pooling feature in the next release.

See im not looking to stream to my phone. Heres the key points im looking to do with it and thats why i want a bare bones server box.

* Obviously watch movies/tv through ethernet
* Low power consumption (since its going to be on all the time I dont want a spike in electric bill. Old roomate left his monster computer on 24/7 and jacked my bill up $50 a mo)
* Remote desktop so i dont have to leave a kvm on it.
* Full time OS so i can keep torrents downloading while im at work.
* Have the ability to upgrade hd space as needed w/ a fast access to backup (the reason for both 2 tb hds is one is files other is pure backup)

Budget wise I figure this is gonna run me in the range of $500 or so. But at the same time i can yank the 1tb drive out of my wdtvlivehub and the 1tb that comes in the server so ill be starting off at 6tb of space (essentially 3 w/ 3 backup.)

Since to buy 2 2tb hard drive network drives would be in the range of $300 its a worthwhile investment for speed and convenience.

I wouldnt, for that cost you can make your own miniPC with normal power supply (the one youare looking at has a proprietary power supply that when it fails (common with those) its a pita and expensive to replace.

use only black western digital drives.

Same here on the drives. So far so good.

I have that, with (2) 1 TB drives in raid, and a external HDD plugged in via usb for critical back up.
