Try it - it's free... it's so damn customizable that you may be converted!

Otherwise try these two:

hated swype. ya everything works. nice not having to run a bunch of apps to get around all the things the phone would not do for me. much cleaner and easier to use now.

There's something better out there than swype? I can't type with both thumbs, but have found swype to let me type pretty fast.

I've tried a number of keyboards.

- Better Keyboard
- SwiftKey
- Swype
- 8pen

I've had a love/hate relationship with Swype. My biggest gripe with it is that I cannot directly control what is in its auto-correction dictionary, and that they love to shove the names from my contacts in there. I have several hundred, so names pop up all the time when they should not. I recently tried the most recent beta, and it caused FC's galore on my Evo, so I ripped that shit out immediately.

Currently I run with SwiftKey, but am not fully satisfied with it as well. It's adequate for my needs.

Other keyboards I've been meaning to try:

- SlideIT: This is your Swype alternative
- FlexT9: Another Swype alternative

Noticed couple of small UI bugs, but nothing significant so far.

Its a modified version of Android OS that's based on the latest release.
It has lots of customization options and usually runs faster than the stock OS.

Sorry, missed your inquiry earlier.

So Android's made by Google, right? But then the different manufacturers & carriers get their hands on it, and mess with it further. That's why you have different flavors of Android between HTC, Samsung, Motorola, etc. handsets mixed with further modifications by Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, etc. carriers.

Only a few phones have been released that are PURE Android, such as the Nexus series. But others of us want the pure Android experience (aka ASOP). A developer named Cyanogen and his crew of developers, Team Douche, have created CyanogenMod (aka CM), which is the premier ASOP conversion of Android. CM7 is a release of Android's Gingerbread release, CM6 is a release of Android's Froyo release, etc.

There are numerous advantages & very few disadvantages to running CyanogenMod on your phone. You need to root and wipe your phone, as it is a full operating system replacement.

Does this help?

I tried Cyanogenmod 7.0. Liked it. But I didn't love it. It seemed fast and smooth, everything worked including camera and wimax, and it even had native wifi tethering. But my "in use" battery was horrible. I used the c'mod 7 kernel that came with it and I could watch my battery plummet and my phone would get very noticeably warmer than Warm 2 point 2 RLS5 with Netarchy kernel. Just taking a guess by looking at my battery graph using juiceplotter, I would guess that my battery was consumed almost twice as fast as my warm RLS5 rom when I was actually using my phone. Definitely still a good rom though.

Overclocked to 1.5ghz using builtin settings. Pretty snappy. Let's see how the battery holds
