Google's New Announcements!

Lots of new stuff announced today... the couple of big ones that'll impact the general masses:

* Movie Rentals on the Android Market
* Google Music Beta Services
* Ice Cream Sandwich (next Android OS)

They made a bunch of other announcements during the Keynote this morning. Google Home... Accessory API... a formal partnership with all carriers & manufacturers to address OS fragmentation. Very very exciting for us Google geeks!

I would totally buy those. mmmmmmmm

I love that they are addressing fragmentation concerns but the carriers will still have a hand in that.

I got the new music app from the market. It is pretty good, better than the previous version but still doesn't have album art download from the app itself. That makes me sad.

Lord, beer me strength

Given that BOTH Manufacturers AND Carriers are part of this new partnership, hopefully Google can keep all of them in check with the updating standards. We'll see how that plays out, but at least the Carriers too, are formally a part of this.

If nothing else, it'll bring Gingerbread (mobile only) and Honeycomb (tablet only) back together into one unified OS. It's not slated till later this year, but they talked about the merging of both OS's and the availability of the tech to be available on all hardware.

True, but with every manufacturer loading their own skin and carriers asking for updated security measures it slows the progress of getting a new OS to the device.

I really want this to work out well but with the carriers the way they are I'm not sure it will happen. It is all wait and see right now.

There's the nut of it right there. Each carrier, and even each manufacturer wants to have something they feel is 'unique' to them and even be capable of things their competitors can't. Everyone all of a sudden playing nice goes against that. Going with it means everything you make or do is nothing more than a commodity. They want to think that not everything is one yet.

Everyone Exaggerates

We're being taken for a ride... agaaaaaaain.....
