Touchscreen or QWERTY?

Just curious which everyone prefers. It seems that the majority of smartphones are doing away with keyboards. From a manufacturing point and cost view I understand but for functionality nothing beat real keys in my opinion. Thoughts?

When the iPhone first came out I was very reluctant to get one because of the lack of keyboard. I played with one in the Apple store and couldn't type well. But I eventually broke down and got one and learned to type on it really quickly.

I have a BB for work and oddly enough I can type a lot faster on my iPhone than on my BB. I guess it's just what you're used to.

For the sake of durability and size, a single device like the iPhone because it has no moving parts tends to be more reliable (similar to how the old Nokia brick phones were more reliable than flip phones of the same era)

as an iPhone user I curse daily at the stupid keyboard, and have sent plenty of email / texts from it with auto correct changing the meaning of the message.

The older devices that had the keyboard and screen all together (aka blackberry, Motorola Q) all suffer from smaller screens as a result.

The larger devices that have a slide out keyboard tend to be much larger in overall size.

Additionally, with multi-touch touch screens being the norm now, I believe think that touch screen devices is the better form factor. The larger screen size coupled with the thinnest form factor available.

I would totally dig a BB Torch if it wasn't on ATT and they would get on board with some better screen resolutions.

My phone has both. My touch screen is pressure sensitive so it works for me. I had an iPhone for a very short time, but for some reason my fingers don't conduct enough electricity to make it work. So I traded in my iPhone for a "regular" phone. I can slide it open to use the qwerty, or I can unlock the screen and pull up a touch keyboard. 99% of the time I use the qwerty.

I don't ride, I cook!

I bailed on the droid/iphone type deals to go back to a Blackberry. I hate the touchscreen crap.

I didn't think I could type on the touchscreen because I could never hit the letter I wanted in store playing on the demo phone. Also most of the people I knew with a touchscreen smartphone could not sent a text that made sense due to autocorrect. But I had to get a phone and didn't like any of the QWERTY option phones. Ended up getting an iPhone.

Now after the learning curve, the touchscreen is faster and easier on my thumb. This post is done from my iPhone.

my phone has no slideout keyboard. touchscreen is fine, but with the size of the keys, i can make tons of mistakes. plus like DB said, autocorrect totally blows.

i've found that i can text and drive by using talk-to-text. woohoo!

+1. I went from BBs to iPhone and now have a BB as a personal cell that I use 40% of the time. I prefer to text on the iPhone as I don't have to press down and find there's noticeable pressure on my hands when using a BB compared to iPhone. No it won't break your wrist, but BB texting is noticeably "harder".

I'm with Supergirl on this one (including the BB torch)
If I'm just txting or FB, the screen is fine.
But if it's more of a business email that needs proper punctuation and symbols like $ signs, I like the speed of the real keyboard.

Yah the new swype makes touchscreens so nice. Other than that no swype = needing a slide out, for me at least.

you're referring to a different blackberry. the first one that came out as a touch screen. i think it was with verizon.

on the torch, you do NOT have to press, it's like any other touchscreen phone.

Auto correct on the iPhone can be turned off. It also Learns words or shorthand so next time, it will leave that word alone.

Why waste space with a physical keyboard. You're either giving up screen area, or gaining thickness for the additional keys. A touch screen changes based on what you need, when you need it. And after using one for awhile, I wouldn't go back.

agree. i don't have an issue using autocorrect. however the amount of bad texts i get and autocorrect is to blame, i concluded it is because of bad spelling or fat fingers

My phone is a total POS - Samsung Transform but it has a slide out keyboard and I'm WAY faster at texting than anyone I know who uses a touchscreen. I can write essays with this thing in a matter of seconds.

Cannot stand touchscreen keyboards.
