Computer Repair/Service

Who would you recommend: Geek Squad, Staples, Office Max, Office Depot or Other?

My Dell laptop, Latitude D610 (about 4 years old) could use some TLC. It was running slower then molasis, so I decided to format it and start over. Well, I was multitasking and I think I screwed up the drivers because I cannot connect it to internet. This was about six months ago if not longer and since it is not our main computer, I never got around to fixing it.

An idea popped in my head the other day about getting it back running; however, I do not have the time or patience to play around with it.

So my question is, if you were in my shoes, who would you take it to? The PC will be used just for light web surfing, occasional dvd watching and here and there to connect to our main computer.

I'd love to get an iPad to replace it, but cannot justify it.

Oh, and how much do you think a diagnostic and fiixing of the drivers or even OS restore will cost?

Thanks!!!

Greg

just download the latest ubuntu image, burn it to a dvd and load it up on your ancient Dell Craptitude.

it's idiot proof and fulfills your needs to surf and email and movie watching

This. I did it to my old Thinkpad after it got a virus about 6 months ago and it runs faster and better than it ever did. I've been running Ubuntu on my desktop for a few years with no issues and now happily have no Windows computers at home.

If you can reformat the Dell, you can certainly fix the drivers.

Use another machine, go to the Dell website support section and download every drive rfor your model. Burn to DVD, CD or USB stick, and put into the Dell. Install drivers. Reboot and you should be fine.

if its already formated and just missing the driver pull the service tag/express code on the bottom of the machine and do a driver search on http://support.dell.com/support/down...=19&l=en&s=dhs. you should be able to find what you need in a few minutes.
