Best place to buy iPad?

Heading soon to pick one up for my wife's b-day. Any advantage with buying from one place vs. the other? BestBuy, Target, Apple Store?

Thanks

- Frank

Thanks but need it "NOW" since her birthday was Monday ....but I've played it up as this Saturday is the "Birthday Celebration", got the baby sitter lined up, dinner reservations....just no gift and she's had iPad fever for a while now so I know we'll end up getting one anyway....might as well give it as her gift. I'm thinking just going to Target or Bestbuy since they are closer and easier parking....but I know they won't know crap about them when I start asking questions.

Apple store is probably better if you have any questions or need help with anything. The people at Best Buy or Target are probably not as knowledgeable if you have any integration or setup questions

This, and if she wants to set it up herself and has any issues, she can stop by and they will help her do it.

...good points, I too felt since the price is the same maybe I'd be better off going to Apple store.....just have to deal with finding parking.

Thanks!

Apple store. If that's not possible, Micro Center. They have a dedicated Apple department.
Prices will be nearly identical everywhere.

Prices will be identical everywhere. Apple does well controlling their end point price. Accessories however will be cheaper (and cheaper quality) at Best Buy, Target, etc.

They are not identical everywhere. Amazon is cheaper, and so is Walmart. Target actually charges more (.99 more, but it's more).
Microcenter sells Mac's cheaper also.

Amazon in $5 more for the 3G Black 32gb and $9 less for the 3G White 32gb. But when you actually click on the cheapest 32gb 3G model is $744.

Walmart Online is spot on with Apple prices.

Ended up going to Apple store in Lincoln Park, not too difficult parking either so got lucky there. To my surprise (although by now you'd think I'd learn) the associates there didn't seem to know much at all. When I asked about tethering the iPad to an iPhone (wife wants one of those in the future too) the associate did not seem to understand what I was asking, finally something clicked and she just said "oh that is $45", so I asked what was $45 dollars and she said to add that to the iPhone data plan...this didn't make sense so I kept asking questions and finally she showed me the plan options and then I learned (and explained to her) that it is $20 extra, not $45 just for the tethering option. When I asked how one would move files from computer to iPad she just said "oh iTunes does that for you", but when I asked exactly how she said she did not know and they could not provide any demo because the display models don't allow that. The I asked about iTunes and how the synching would work and if I could have a separate library just for the iPad...again no clue. I tried to explain how my library is managed by an XML file (iTunes Music Library.xml) and then she was really lost, I asked to speak to another associate, maybe someone with more knowledge of iTunes setup, she brought another associate over and he proceeded to tell me that XML files were Microsoft spreadsheet files.....ugh. In the end I just said, don't worry about it, I'm buying it anyway b/c that is what wife wants. Personally, I don't think I care for the way you have to manage everything thru iTunes and think sharing the iPad between my wife and I won't be so seamless since now we each have our own iTunes setup (we each have a separate user on Windows 7 laptop with our own profile...and as a result our own iTunes library...i.e. "iTunes Music Library.xml").

...oh well, got the 32 gig AT&T 3G model in black. Hopefully she will enjoy it and hopefully it's easier to manage than I fear. Maybe a jailbreak can make things a little more flexible but I'm probably better off just leaving it alone or I'll break it and then be in trouble ...haha

Thanks for the input

- Frank
