two sound cards

just thinking here,
i have a sound card from my other computer and was wondering if i could have both work. my idea is one for teamspeak and the other for everything else

i want to drink, but only to kill a certain few brain cells and i don't care how many i have to take out to get to them.

its doable, but the question is what would be the point? I like to wear ONE headset where I can hear the game AND teamspeak...

no, one sound card to teamspeak with only the one ear phone and mic.

and the other sound card to play the game sound on my suround speakers.

when i tried it just thru my speakers it sounded like crap. i want to hear the game sound nice and loud

you know just like xbox360 does it

this isn't true - most programs allow you to pick the sound output. In that you would select the hardware. However, I still don't see the point of having two sound cards. It can't hurt to try it but I think in the end you will be disappointed with the results.

No point.

On my home PC, I have a higher-end sound card that pipes out through my surround sound speakers. And then I have a USB mic/headset also connected, but only enable the mic on the headset.

I think that'll accomplish what you want, yes?

Makes sense to me. While playing the game they want the people talking in his ear through the headset and the game noises through the speakers.

I can't tell you if it would work or not, just wondering why others are saying there is no point.

You can do it with just one card. I know a guy here at work that does it. If you have a decent card it should have a headset out and all the speaker outs (guy here uses onboard 5.1 and a headset) then you can just tell TS to use the headset instead of the direct sound drivers....... I'm not 100% on that but I know it can be done. I gave up on TS years ago and can't stand it now.

Bek, I think he wants to hear TS on the headset as well.

And he can do precisely that. In TS, you can specify both your input and output device, so just set that to your USB headset, and leave the system/game sound to go out via your speakers.

Check out this TS example I found via Google:

Note that you can set both the "Capture" and "Playback" devices individually here.

FYI, you get better at the game with headsets IMO. Can really here those little noises you just cant over speakers. But like they said, you can set your speakers to default in the control panel, and then tell ts to use the headset.
