Laptop hinges

Can they be fixed somehow? My screen is pretty loose on the hinges. No reason to replace the computer anytime soon either...

Might want to use blue loctite as that is sufficient and you might need to actually take it apart some day. Hell, if blue is good enough for the front caliper bolts on my track bike than it's good enough for a laptop

my old laptop had the opposite problem, it tightened up so much over time that the housing started to break.

is it a dell? It is a common problem, and Dave's suggestion is spot on. Often times it isn't the hinge but the screws that mount the bottom of the hinge to the base of the machine.

Yeah it's a dell. Screws were loose as well as the hinges being on the fritz...

Need to know what model your laptop is.

Suggestion - go over to http://forum.notebookreview.com/ and find the appropriate Owners Thread for your laptop & ask there. There's TONS and TONS of rabid laptop/notebook folks there. Chances are good that someone can tell you how to adjust your specific laptop.

Like Bek said, the hinges can probably be tightened if done properly with the help of a DIY thread.

I love the minimal effort required to open my macbook's screen. They even paid especial attention to create the right amount of friction in the hinges so that the screen can be opened with just one finger without the laptop moving.

Could have gotten it done for free at an Apple store even if it was out of warranty.

Why deal with the hassle? Took me all of 10 minutes to do.

No. I hate the iphone. I love android and messing with it. As far as computers go though, I just got tired of messing with PCs. Day to day I am just happier with our macs even though I still have a PC netbook and dual boot vista on the imac for certain things.
