IP Configuration

My computer is loosing its IP Configuration so I'm told by AT&T tech. Suggested that it may be in the tower itself. He showed me how to renew the configuration each time, however I'm getting an error that its just timing out. Any ideas to correct this?

Don't have time to delve into this right now. But try /release then do /renew. You have to release the current ip before you can renew.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

If it's "losing" it's configuration, it likely is having a problem with the connection to the router/modem.

Perhaps wireless signal issues or physical cable problems.

If the computer is connected by cable, check the cable and connectors for stretching or damage, and replace if there are any visible problems.

If you use a wireless connection, move things so the computer and wireless access point are closer together and see if that helps.

This computer is wired. I'll check the cables.

Tried this and getting a message about this command requires elevation.

What operating system are you running?

Hmmm sounds like you are not logged in as admin or your login does not have admin rights.

Either log in as admin or Click Start -> Accessories -> right click on the Command Prompt icon -> choose run as admin. You may or may not have this option. Try it and let me know what happens. If it runs fine and opens the command prompt without issue, then type ipconfig /release, hit enter, then ipconfig /renew, hit enter.

As for what is causing your computer to "lose its ip address" I would need more info and troubleshoot the PC. It could be an ip address conflict with another device on your network. Or it could be your DHCP lease. Or maybe its a firewall issue. Or an antivirus software issue.

It may not be configured correctly. For example, DHCP may not be enabled.
